You're retired, now what?

Retirement. One word that promises endless possibilities and freedom. So why does a new study show that people are not as fulfilled during retirement as they had imagined? The answer might be why people 55 years old and better are moving to Reno’s new active lifestyle community, Mountain Lakes Estates.
“Simplified living,” said Administrator Nate Williams. “Maintaining a house requires a lot of time and money,” he said. “People would rather spend their days doing what they love to do, not what they have to do.”
Mountain Lakes Estates is an all-inclusive monthly rental community – an appealing alternative, Williams explained, to traditional communities that require contracts and hefty entrance fees. Included in Mountain Lakes’ monthly fee is housekeeping, maintenance (you’ll never have to change a lightbulb or figure out why cable isn’t working), chef-prepared meals, transportation, wellness/exercise programs, and a social calendar packed with endless options.
Retirement as It Should Be
Residents wake each morning to a mountain view and enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast. Some head to their morning t’ai chi class while others grab their gardening hat and head outdoors to tend flowers and vegetables in raised garden beds.
There are trips to casinos, the theater, and museums; shopping and lunch with friends; competitive games of Rummikub and Bridge; and the ever-popular Happy Hour. Monthly Food Truck Wednesday events draw local neighbors and friends. On June 15, the community is hosting The Codfather Burgers and Sandwiches from noon - 2 p.m.
“The community is always buzzing with activity, laughter, and good conversation,” said Williams. The life enrichment director spearheads the social calendar on behalf of residents. If a resident wants to try a new activity, start a hobby, or take a day trip, he explained, the team at Mountain Lakes will find a way to make it happen -- even if it's not on the social calendar.
Resident Robin Hendrickson introduced disc golf to the community. You’ll find him – and sometimes with Williams – playing the flying disc sport at Wedge Park.
