TMCC political scientist to speak at Carson City Democratic tele-luncheon
Ever-popular TMCC political science professor Fred Lokken will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon. Prof. Lokken's presentation will include an assessment of President Biden's first 100 days, prospects for passage of his ambitious agenda, a review of where the legislative session stands going into the final week, and electoral prospects for the all-important 2022 midterms.
Prof. Lokken joined the faculty of Truckee Meadows Community College in 1991 and was granted tenure in 1995. The subject matter covered by his courses include political science, business and history. In addition to being the Political Science department chair, he has served as the campus distance education ("DE") administrator since 1996. TMCC's WebCollege offers ten online degree options, supported by 375 full- and part-time faculty, which generate 28% of the campus's full time equivalent headcount and interacts with nearly 80% of the total student body.
Prof. Lokken serves as Associate Dean for the Academic Support Center, which deals with the 450 part-time faculty, the campus information desk, switchboard, student IDs, campus scheduling and the online class proctoring center, as well as course numbering and the curriculum newsletter. He also serves as campus concierge for the "Nontraditional No More" adult learners project, and is the liaison for academic technologies. Currently, he is spearheading the development and launch of a fast-track online degree program.
Since 2004 Prof. Lokken has served on the Board of Directors of the Instructional Technology Council (ITC), an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges, and served two years as chair. He has conducted the ITC's annual Distance Education survey since 2005. In April 2010, he was elected chair of the Council of Affiliated Councils of the AACC.
Sponsored by the Carson City Democratic Men's Committee, this event is scheduled for noon on Monday, May 24th, and will be held online via Zoom teleconference due to masking and social distancing restrictions at in-person venues.
