Carson City district attorney to speak at Democratic luncheon
The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City District Attorney Jason Woodbury. First elected in 2014, Woodbury is now seeking reelection to a third term, during which he looks forward to completing a comprehensive revision to the Municipal Code. He cites the establishment of standard procedures for coroner’s inquests and his office’s crucial role in the arrest and prosecution of serial killer Wilber Martinez-Guzman as among his proudest achievements in office to date.
Born in Reno and raised in Elko, in 1995 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he was recognized as the Most Outstanding Political Science Student. In 1998 he earned a Doctor of Law (JD) from the University of Utah's S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he participated in Moot Court and distingushed himself as Executive Editor of the Utah Law Review.
In 1998 he moved to Carson City to clerk for Judge Michael R. Griffin. Prior to his 2014 election as Carson City's 30th District Attorney, Woodbury spent four years as Senior Deputy to Carson City District Attorney Noel Waters, serving in both the criminal and civil divisions. He spent the subsequent 12 years in private practice, including ten years with the prestigous statewide firm of Kaempfer Crowell. He is a member of the Nevada District Attorney’s Association, and twice a year he teaches a course on Constitutional Law for officers in training at the Nevada Police Academy.
Woodbury is very active in the community. He serves on the sPartnership Carson City steering committee. From 2003 to 2017 he served on the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada Board of Directors, including a term as President in 2008. In 2011, he completed the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Carson City program. He was also a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Western Nevada affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Jason and his wife Stacy have two children who are currently attending middle school in Carson City. His stepson Noah recently received an honorable discharge from the Nevada Army National Guard after six years of service and now lives in Maryland with his wife Maggy.
