TV presenter Sam Shad to speak at Democratic luncheon
The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Hall of Fame broadcaster Sam Shad, host of Nevada Newsmakers, long the state’s premier news and political program.
Sam started in Reno radio on KGLR in 1978. His first foray into the position of talk show host was in 1990 with a radio program on KHIT, which later moved to KROW 780 AM where he also did daily commentaries.
In the early nineties, Sam hosted The Daytime Show on KOLO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Reno, which leaned heavily towards politics. In 1994 he hosted the critically acclaimed Monday at Four program on the same station, which highlighted debates between candidates in that year's election races. For every election from 1994 through 2002, Sam served as political interviewer for KOLO-TV's morning show. He also hosted Nevada Newsmakers on that channel for ten years.
Between 2003 and 2016, Nevada Newsmakers moved to Sinclair's NBC affiliate KRNV-TV, and was carried by KVBC-TV in Las Vegas as well. It is currently available online at NevadaNewsmakers.com and as audio and video podcasts. On TV it can be watched on CW-Reno (8.3) and My LV TV (33.2). On radio, it airs on Newstalk 780 KOH in Reno on Sundays from 7:00 to 9:00 AM. Sam can be reached at sam@shad.reno.nv.us.
