Carson City needs to enforce snow removal regulations
How many pedestrians must get injured or killed while walking the sidewalks here in Carson City? How many pedestrians will receive tickets for walking around the snow piles blocking sidewalks due to business allowing their contractors to do so? Lets look at the Carson City Ordinance first.
11.12.130 - Snow removal.
Any owner, agent or occupant of any lot, block or parcel of land which is used for commercial purposes or which lies within the bounds of the "business district" of Carson City which is defined as all land bounded by the north 1/16 line of Section 20 on the south Nye Lane on the north, Curry Street on the west, and Stewart Street on the east, who fails to remove all ice and snow from the sidewalk adjacent to such parcel of land within forty-eight (48) hours after a snowfall, shall by this chapter be guilty of maintaining a public nuisance.
The board may order the department of public works to abate this nuisance immediately without notice to the owner and the cost of such abatement shall be borne by the owner of said lot or parcel.
Please Carson City, Start enforcing this regulation. Please push back the snow as you post on your website.
"When plowing becomes necessary, the snow is generally plowed to the street edges and can cover driveways and sidewalks. This is a situation which cannot be avoided."
Plowed to the street edge? How about 10 feet on most roads, away from the curb. Most pedestrians are forced to walk further out? Push it back. Slow down so that you don't throw the snow 20 feet. It's that easy. Experienced it. Had to get behind a phone pole at a bus stop because the operator was speeding.
Carson City needs to train their drivers and start enforcing their own laws. If not, get equipment like the Bombardier sidewalk plow and start clearing the sidewalks.
