Nevada Public Employee Pension Plan Sees Record Investment Return In 2011

Fire burning at Indian Creek in Alpine County seen from Carson City
Submitted by editor on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 2:08pmVisible from Carson City and Carson Valley, a fire continues to burn in Alpine County, Calif., near the Indian Creek Reservoir area. Alpine County has evacuated the Indian Creek Campground, reports Helen Frazier of the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
While there aren't any homes in the immediate fire area, the campground does have a number of recreation facilities.
Carson City Sheriff's Office hosts National Night Out on Aug. 2

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the National Association of Town Watch will co-sponsor the 28th annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Mills Park.
The theme for this year is “101 Days of Crime Prevention and Safety” which was envisioned by Sheriff Ken Furlong to promote safety throughout the summer which continues well after National Night Out. Festivities run from 5 to to 8 p.m.
Carson City planners to review apartment complex proposed for North Division
Submitted by editor on Sun, 07/24/2011 - 5:34amThe Carson City Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday to hear a request by Granite Construction for a time extension to build a concrete plant; will take up a right-of-way abandonment on Karin Drive and will review a special use permit for an apartment complex in the 800 block of North Division.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.
Carson City road construction report for July 25-31

Beginning Tuesday, July 26, Saliman Road will be closed at Robinson Street for construction of a water transmission line. Detours will be marked. The road is expected to remained closed until Aug. 21.
Carson City to host Heal the World Interfaith Picnic of Nevada

Christians of various denominations, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, Baha’is, and others, besides sharing food, music, games, prayers, a “Peace Cake”, etc., will also try to find similarities between their diverse traditions at second annual “Heal the World Interfaith Picnic of Nevada” on July 31, said Adina Richman Karst, vent coordinator.
Two Carson City women face felony burglary charges

Nancie Marie Turner, 31, and Lori Lynn Stephens, 40, are each being held on $50,000 bail and face charges of burglary and intent to burglarize.
NDOT Begins Field Test Of Car Tracking Technology For Potential New Tax

NDOT is in the second phase of a multi-year study of the Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) tax, which would replace the existing fuel tax and be levied based on the number of miles a car travels rather than the amount of gas it consumes.
Nevada Division of Insurance recovers $1.8 million for Nevadans

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Division of Insurance is pleased to announce that it recovered $1.8 million for Nevada consumers in the first half of 2011. A recovery is the amount of monetary compensation or relief received by a consumer as a result of a filed consumer complaint.
