A power outage affecting around 8,100 NV Energy customers occurred at around 5:38 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Carson City and Carson Valley areas just as a strong thunderstorm cell was moving through the region.

Mother Nature brought the heat Saturday to open the annual High Sierra and Nevada Capitol Regional Chili Cook Off held at Glen Eagles Restaurant in Carson City.

A 19 year-old Dayton man was arrested Saturday morning at 5:04 a.m. in the 1900 block of North Carson Street on three misdemeanor offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported, including minor under the age of 21 gambling, minor loitering where alcohol is served, and violation of bail conditions.

The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) has awarded a total of $3.7 million in grant funds from the state's Account for Aid for Victims of Domestic Violence to organizations statewide, including the Carson City-based Advocates to End Domestic Violence(AEDV), which topped the list of rural county recipients with a grant totaling $89,824.

San Jose Sharks forward Joe Pavelski leads after Friday’s opening round of the 2018 American Century Championship, as thousands of fans watched on a sun-baked day at Tahoe’s celebrity golf tournament.

Pavelski ended the day with 25 points on the Stableford scoring system — his best round in three trips to Edgewood Tahoe. Pavelski tallied five birdies and three bogies.

On the morning of July 13, between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m., a 2016 grey Vespa scooter was stolen from the Sedway Office Building parking lot of the Nevada Legislature in Carson City. The Kiwanis Aktion Club of Carson Valley recently completed a community service project in an effort to help brighten the days of some of the community's senior citizen population.

Over the course of the month of June, the Aktion Club painted 30 flower pots and planted live flowers in them. In early July, the flowers were donated to Brookdale Senior Living in Gardnerville to be distributed to the residents there.

Volunteers from Carson Valley Medical Center assisted club members with the planting on July 2.

For the second time Thursday, Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called to a vehicle accident involving a juvenile on a bicycle, this time in the 3000 block of North Roop Street near the Quickstop.

A power outage Thursday is affecting NV Energy area customers in the Buzzys Ranch Road area in East Carson City and may be tied to downed power lines from a fire earlier near the Silver Saddle Ranch.

The utility is reporting at least 181 customers are without power in the Buzzys Ranch Road area and in the Carson River Road area.

NV Energy says power should be restored by 6:30 p.m.
