Sierra Lutheran’s JV volleyball team won its first non-conference matchup against Mineral County on Friday. The Hawks won both sets 25-18 and 25-20.

In the Girls Small School Race Kailey Fitzpatrick was 14th in 21:23, Sierra Carranza was 19th in 23:34, Ava Zimmerman was 20th in 23:35, and Christi Kennedy was 21st in 24:10.
The Falcons next meet is September 13 in Tahoe City.
Nevada shocks Purdue with 56-yard field goal at game’s end

With the Wolf Pack down 31-14 late in the third quarter, Nevada scored 20 unanswered points capped-off by Talton’s 56-yard field goal as time expired. It is the team’s second-largest comeback since 1996. Talton came into Saturday’s game as the backup placekicker, but he ended the night as the hero.

Carson’s potent offense stole the show for most of the contest. The Senators rushed for 359 yards and 137 passing yards.

The Falcons got solid performances from Christi Kennedy (36th Girls Freshman), Sierra Carranza (38th Girls Sophomore), Aaron Waite (47th Boys Sophomore), Will Webster (39th Boys Sophomore), Andreas Gilson (47th Boys Junior), and Jacob Tack (50th Boys Junior). Sierra Lutheran will run next Friday at the Nevada Twi-light Classic in Reno. Andreas Gilson is the runner pictured.
