Lyon Country Sheriff's Message of the Week: Sheriff's Office to begin posting mugshots weekly

Sheriff’s Office Personnel are still recovering from the long, hot weekend of working Night in the Country in Yerington. From the Sheriff’s Office point of view the event went well, and was relatively calm. There were calls for service, and law enforcement actions taken on several occasions. I will issue a complete and detailed after action report on the 08/04/2023 message of the week.
Carson City’s ‘Mazi Squad’ to host Summerfest Aug. 5

Carson City’s Mazi Squad will be hosting an inaugural annual Summerfest Saturday, Aug. 5.
The Summerfest takes place at 3681 Center Dr. and includes several musical artists, vendors, and more.
Southwest Gas donates $2,500 to Carson City's homeless shelter program Night off the Streets

Southwest Gas recently made a donation of $2,500 to Night Off The Streets, Carson City's shelter for the homeless program that operates during the winter months.

Happy Thursday, Carson City! Say hello to Blush, Carson City’s Pet of the Week from the Nevada Humane Society.
Blush is around 6 years old and has been at the shelter since late May, and shelter staff don’t know how this sweet girl hasn’t been adopted yet.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office will celebrate National Night Out from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, at the Fernley Out of Town Park Gazebo. Similar law enforcement community events will be held in Carson City and August 8 in Virginia City.

Carson City sex and health education receives new material, removes outdated material from curriculum

Carson City School Board trustees unanimously approved new material for the district's sex education curriculum during its Tuesday meeting.
Teachers are not forced to teach the material, but the material is made available to them for their choice of instruction.
Carson City fire restrictions begin Friday

Effective this Friday, the Carson City Fire Department will implement fire restrictions on city and privately owned lands within the city.
