Carson Victory Rollers open Nevada Day derby with first win
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sat, 10/27/2018 - 7:21pmThe Carson Victory Rollers, Carson City's hometown roller derby team, opened the annual "Battle For Nevada" roller derby tournament with a win over Battle Born Derby Demons Saturday afternoon.
The win positioned CVR to play a second bout at 5 p.m. Saturday. Roller derby continues Sunday as the "Battle For Nevada" wraps up by crowning a champion.
Carson City retains title as Nevada's most bearded community

Reno man wins tenth rock drilling title at Nevada Day competition in Carson City

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sat, 10/27/2018 - 3:01pmThis is the rescheduled hike that was originally listed as Oct. 6. It is an intermediate hike to Marlette Lake. Approximately 10 miles, round-trip, with time for lunch and spectacular views of Marlette Lake. Elevation gain is 700 feet. For fit and experienced hikers.
The trailhead begins from Spooner Lake parking area and heads north towards Marlette Lake on North Canyon Trail. This part of the trip is a dirt road, and approximately one mile.
Carson City Fire Department: Brush fire at Duck Hill knocked down, started by Raven helicopter hitting power line
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sat, 10/27/2018 - 3:00pmUPDATE: 5:15PM: The brush fire off Duck Hill Road was last reported at five acres, according to KRNV News 4 in Reno, before fire crews knocked down the flames and prevented the blaze from reaching any structures. Firefighters are now in mop-up stage.

New bank in Carson City

Plumas Bank will open on Monday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m. The Carson City branch is located at 1101 N. Carson Street at the corner of William and N. Carson Street.

But the festivities continue on Bob McFadden Plaza with the popular annual beard contest as well as the Battle For Nevada roller derby competition featuring Carson City's own Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson City Community Center gymnasium.
