Nevada Lore Series: The haunting of Carson City’s famed Bliss Mansion

The Bliss Mansion, which still stands today directly across from the Governor’s mansion, was built by millionaire Duane L. Bliss in 1879 and was the most lavish and elaborate home built in Carson City at the time. Some say its dutiful owner still walks the grounds, keeping an eye on his beloved masterpiece.

Well Being Massage and Functional Fitness in Carson City celebrated its grand re-opening Saturday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, Carson City Supervisor Lori Bagwell and members of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies respond to reported roll-over on Sierra Vista Lane

Deputies with the Carson City Sheriff's Office responded to a report from emergency dispatch of a Jeep that had rolled over off Sierra Vista Lane near the Mexican Dam Saturday morning just after 10 a.m.

A 58 year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday evening at 5:34 p.m. in the area of Panamint and Furnace Creek roads on multiple misdemeanor offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported, including a second-offense driving under the influence (DUI), hit-and-run, and a Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing (DAS) violation.

On this date in 1781, the Continental Army under the commands of American Gen. George Washington and French commander, Comte de Rochambeau, began its siege of Yorktown, Virginia, a key colonial port and peninsular settlement where the Marquess Charles Cornwallis, a British Earl and lieutenant general of His Majesty's royal army in the South, had positioned his forces on orders from British General-in-Chief Henry Clinton.
