Heller, Amodei attend Carson City Chamber luncheon amid protests

United States Sen. Dean Heller and U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei were the featured guest speakers at Wednesday's monthly Soup's On luncheon series sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

Their presence attracted a sold-out crowd inside the banquet room at the Gold Dust West Casino, 2171 East William Street in Carson City, as well as dozens of protesters outside of the facility.

Nevada doubles statewide school breakfast participation

Nevada had the highest percentage increase in school breakfast participation according to the annual School Breakfast Scorecard released Tuesday by the Food Research and Action Center, a national anti-hunger advocacy group. The scorecard ranks all 50 states and the District of Columbia on participation of low-income children in the School Breakfast Program.

Sandoval tours south Dayton retention pond following National Weather Service alert

Gov. Brian Sandoval toured the South Dayton Retention Pond near East Dayton on Tuesday following alerts from the National Weather Service that indicated the area may be compromised due to heavy rainfall.

Sandoval was joined by Lyon County Manager Jeff Page, Lyon County Commissioner Ken Gray, and State Water Engineer Jason King.

Painting of Historic Silver City at the Nevada Legislature

Artwork by Sophie Scott of New Zealand will be on display at the Nevada State Legislative Building in Carson City during the 2017 Legislative session. Look for it on the third floor near Ways and Means. Sophie’s painting, based on an 1860s photograph of Silver City, was created while she was a resident artist in Silver City in 2015.
