Great Nevada Earthquake of 1915 spurs reminder for 2015 Great Nevada Shakeout

About 100 years ago Nevada was rocked by the largest earthquake in its history, the 1915 magnitude 7.3 Pleasant Valley earthquake south of Winnemucca. Only a few large earthquakes since then have rumbled the state, but nothing near the surface scar — with a vertical offset as high as 19 feet – that stretched 35 miles across Nevada’s Great Basin.

Seeliger Elementary in Carson City will once again feature crafters, bounce houses, deluxe locally-grown pumpkins, music, food, gift baskets, raffles, a cake walk and lots of games! The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Seeliger Elementary, 2800 S. Saliman Rd.

Building a Future in Carson City

Life in Carson City is changing and the city is getting on board for the future. The groundbreaking for a new branch of the United Federal Credit Union on East Williams Street will eventually mean ten more jobs there. But they say it's about much more than jobs.

Sheriff: Man who killed Carson City deputy was 4 times the legal BAC limit

This is a follow up on a recent tragedy in Carson City, an officer-involved shooting that claimed the life of a sheriff's deputy. Ken Stine wrote in asking why there hasn't been more information publicized about the man who shot Deputy Carl Howell in Carson City.

Carson Tahoe’s Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness campaign kicks off Thursday

Preparing for disaster: Carson City emergency managers host hazard mitigation workshop

Carson City Emergency Management and the Carson City Fire Department will host a planning and community hazard mitigation open house and workshop Thursday, marking the 100th anniversary of the historic 1915 Nevada Pleasant Valley earthquake that happened 50 miles south of Winnemucca and considered the strongest earthquake ever recorded in Nevada.
