Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi to retire

Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi announced that he'll retire in early February of 2015, said Carson City Manager Nick Marano. Giomi is only the fourth paid fire chief in the city's history. He was hired Nov. 23, 1983 and became chief in 2005. He has been with the fire department for 31 years.

Giomi has accepted a position with Nevada Health Centers as their Director of Facilities and Emergency Preparedness. Nevada Health Centers is a federally qualified health center in Nevada and the largest primary care provider for the underserved and/or geographically isolated in the State.

Prescribed burning continues around Lake Tahoe forest areas

Prescribed fire operations near Sugar Pine Point State Park, Pioneer Trail and Washoan Boulevard, Ski Run Boulevard near Heavenly, Luther Pass, Spooner Summit, and Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park in Slaughterhouse Canyon, the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team announced Friday.

Special pine holiday program for families at Nevada State Museum Dec. 13

Families are invited to explore “Pines are Fine,” a special Nevada State Museum holiday program from 10 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 in Carson City. Visitors are invited to craft a pine cone wreath, a pine cone angel or decorate a small holiday tree made from a Jeffrey Pine cone and may work as long as they would like on the craft.

Carson City sheriff's log: Deputies make DUI, domestic battery arrests

A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 1:14 a.m. in the 1700 block of East William Street on suspicion of DUI and speeding, both misdemeanors. According to the arrest report, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy clocked the driver going 52 mph in a 35 mph zone on East William Street.

The officer activated his emergency lights and the driver would not brake to slow down, the report states. The officer then activated his siren and the vehicle continued heading eastbound, pulling into a parking lot in the 1700 block of East William Street.

Charter Communications store in Carson City relocates to North Carson Street facility

Charter Communications will open its newly relocated retail store in Carson City. The existing Charter store, located at 284 E. Winnie Lane, will close at 2 p.m. Saturday and will reopen Monday at a new, larger facility, at 3745 N. Carson Street.

"Beyond a new, larger location, the new store allows for hands-on demonstrations of Charter’s products, said Kim Haas, regional communications director for Charter.
