I'm sure the firefighters working on the Springs Fire east of Gardnerville are happy for the showers. And the rain did a nice job of taking the smoke out of the air. Carsonweather.com reports that we have had .09 inches of rain so far today. What a way to start a week.

July 13: East Walker River in Lyon County: 1,399 rainbow trout: 10.4 inches in length.
July 13: Marilyn’s Pond in Washoe County: 833 rainbows: 10.4 inches.
Nevada Artists Association Hosts Landscape Gallery

July 31, 2012 - 10:00am Take a glimpse at a photograph that evolves into multiple masterpieces at the Nevada Artists Association’s Seventh Annual Landscape Show at the Brewery Arts Center Gallery, from July 31 – September 7 in Carson City.
Participating artists paint from the same photograph provided from the show using their own style and mediums, and even creating their own version of the photograph. The gallery will display the different styles that the artists have used for their creation.
Arts Center Holds Public Business Meeting

July 24, 2012 - 5:30pm The Brewery Arts Center board will hold its annual Membership Business Meeting on Tuesday, July 24, at 5:30 P.M.
The meeting is open to the public and attendees are encouraged to share their thoughts and inputs of how the BAC can better serve the needs of the Carson City community. There will also be an opportunity to meet the board and staff of the BAC.
The meeting will be located at the Brewery Art Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449. W. King Street.
Local Karaoke Night to be on Live Television

July 26, 2012 - 5:30pm Become a “Carson City Idol” by performing at the Drop-In Karaoke Night – Idol Style, that will be broadcasting live on television and the internet!
The friendly, non-Simon Cowell, Idol-Style Judges will be observing each participant's performance. Participants are welcome to bring their own karaoke track, choose from a provided song list, or even a self-written song.
Film and Acting Classes Offered for Kids and Teens

July 25, 2012 - 11:00am Kids and teens have the opportunity to show off their inner stardom by attending film making classes at Carson City’s Brewery Art Center.
Students who sign up can choose from film classes such as screen writing, directing, acting, and editing and posting production. These classes range from $20 - $120, and each class will be in session between the dates of July 25 – August 16.

Lightning sparks fires in Douglas County
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 07/22/2012 - 5:32pmUPDATE 6:55PM: Afternoon thunderstorms produced lightning that started brush fires in the Pine Nuts east of Gardnerville in Douglas County on Sunday, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. No immediate structures were said to be threatened. The fires have burned about 1,000 acres at last report, which was 6:30 p.m.
