The only elements missing were Rod Serling's haunting voice and that eerie music.
"I feel like I'm in the twilight zone," said Western Nevada College baseball coach D.J. Whittemore after his team dropped a doubleheader on Saturday at John L. Harvey Field. "I have no answers."
Despite brillant pitching performances by Jake Waardenburg, Jordan Lewis and Tim Peterson, WNC lost the opener 2-0 in nine innings and the nightcap 2-1 to College of Southern Idaho. WNC (18-9) is now 6-6 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference while CSI improved to 3-8 in conference. Despite the lack of offense, both games were ones that WNC could have easily won. "You can win close games if you execute and we didn't do it," Whittemore said. "You can't win in this league without doing those things. There's no excuse for that." Lewis started on the mound in the opener and allowed a double and an RBI single. But Chris Sinclair had a runner dead to rights trying to steal third, but an error was committed on the play, allowing the runner to score an unearned run to give CSI a 2-0 lead.
