In honor of Father's Day 2020, Episode 5 of Carson City Symphony’s Project Euterpe presents music by Franz Joseph Haydn, known as “Papa Haydn, the father of the symphony and father of the string quartet."

Heading into Tuesday, the capital city will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint with events throughout the day. Other activities include a morning and evening walk hosted by Muscle Powered, a dinner fundraiser for the Roman family at Pizza Factory, a community dinner and meeting invite to the Order of Eastern Star, a showing at the BAC of the 1941 film classic "The Lady Eve" and a concert featuring the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus with violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn at Shepherd-Sierra Lutheran Church. Stellar violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn joins TOCCATA, the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for the 10th year, performing one of the finest and most popular gems in the concerto repertoire. Ms. Pitcairn plays Mendelssohn's beloved "Violin Concerto" on the legendary 1720 "Red Mendelssohn" Stradivarius.

Sunday will bring cool temperatures and some sunshine with daytime highs in the mid 60s around the capital city region. Lined up today are fall train rides in Carson City and Virginia City, a women veteran's support group meeting, and a a discussion with survivors, family and doctors about metastatic breast cancer. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include Harvest Train festivities at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Thomas the Tank Engine and steam train rides in Virginia City, the first-ever Gandy Dance in Dayton, October Ghost Walk Tours through downtown Carson City and more!

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will open its 36th season on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at 4 p.m., with an “Overture of the Season” concert at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater.

TOCCATA, Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus presents celebrated American violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn performing one of the 10 greatest violin concertos of all time. And more than 100 singers and instrumentalists bring you Mendelssohn’s spectacular “Elijah.” Hear the concert at Carson Valley Methodist Church in Gardnerville on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. Other performances Feb. 9-17 in Incline, South Lake, and Reno.

Time for some Sunday holiday adventure. The Carson Nugget has something special tonight, a Van Halen Tribute Band plays two concerts in their upstairs ballroom. For a lazy afternoon in the shade, you’ll find live music on the porch of the Genoa Bar. The Tahoe Orchestra brings their annual 9/11 Memorial Concert to St. Gall’s Church in Gardnerville. It’s nice that the beginning of the school year is almost immediately rewarded with a three-day weekend. Building on its operatic 11th Anniversary BOPS Celebration series from July, TOCCATA-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will continue its 21-concert Summer MusicFest with a new series entitled Mozart in the Mountains, including an Aug. 10 performance in Carson City.

The Reno Chamber Orchestra presents Catherine Manoukian. The performance begins with the seldom performed yet stunningly beautiful Violin Concerto by the English composer Sir Edward Elgar. Performed by the Canadian violinist Catherine Manoukian the concerto is a marathon for both soloist and orchestra. The concert is rounded out by an early symphony of the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak considered heavily influenced by the German Richard Wagner. The Reno Chamber Orchestra presents Bella Hristova. The performance begins with an audience favorite by Mendelssohn, the Hebrides Overture. Bella Hristova then joins the RCO in a performance of the Violin Concerto written for her by her husband-to-be, David Ludwig, as a wedding gift. The program ends on a high note with the most humorous of all Beethoven symphonies, Number 8 in the key of F major. TOCCATA – Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus continues its 11th annual WinterFest with Elizabeth Pitcairn in Concert, performing with the legendary Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius violin.

The program opens with Felix Mendelssohn’s symphonic choral masterpiece Elijah, Part 2, featuring vocal soloists Anna Helwing, Joy Strotz, and Becky Earl, sopranos; Liudmila Mullin, mezzo soprano; Brad Perry and Sherman Modeste, tenor; and Stuart Duke, Chris Nelson and Chris Langton, baritones.

TOCCATA Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will finalize their 2015 Tahoe Summer MusicFest with a concert series beginning Wednesday, September 16, at 7:00 pm, in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Carson City (3597 N. Sunridge Drive). The concert series commemorates the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy and features Verdi’s Requiem (selections) and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with Guest Artist Elizabeth Pitcairn performing on the legendary Red Stradivarius Violin.

Internationally renowned violinist Chloë Hanslip brings her extensive repertoire to the Reno Philharmonic Association’s Classix Five. At 24, the British violinist is firmly established on the international stage. Since her BBC debut in 2002, she has performed regularly at major venues in England, Europe, United States and the Far East. The Classix Five concert set is Feb. 15 and 17, 2015 at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, in Reno, Nev.

TOCCATA – Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus continues its 10th annual WinterFest with the Paul Guttman Concert Series Feb. 8 – 15 featuring guest violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn. The program includes Gloria from the Mass in B minor featuring the Tahoe Symphony Chorus and vocal soloists. Ms Pitcairn will perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major on the legendary Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius violin. Other performances in the series at other venues are on Feb. 8, 11, and 15. The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will present a concert, "Russian Treasures," on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The concert features guest violinist Carla Trynchuk in a performance of Alexander Glazunov's Violin Concerto. The program, suitable for people of all ages, also includes Russian March by Strauss, In the Steppes of Central Asia by Borodin, and Capriccio Italien by Tchaikovsky.

The Carson City Symphony conducted by David Bugli will begin rehearsals on Wednesday, January 11, at 7:00 p.m., in the Carson High School band room, 1111 N. Saliman Road in Carson City, for a February concert, "Russian Treasures."

The concert features guest violinist Andrew Sords in a performance of Eduoard Lalo's "Symphonie espagnole." This all-French program, suitable for people of all ages, also includes Georges Bizet's "L'Arlesienne Suite No. 1" and Gabriel Faure's "Dolly Suite."
Pre-concert entertainment begins at 3 p.m. in the lobby and a Meet-the-Soloist preview begins at 3:15 p.m. in the Sierra Room.
