TOCCATA Presents 9/11 Memorial Concert Series September 16-22
TOCCATA Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will finalize their 2015 Tahoe Summer MusicFest with a concert series beginning Wednesday, September 16, at 7:00 pm, in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Carson City (3597 N. Sunridge Drive). The concert series commemorates the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy and features Verdi’s Requiem (selections) and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with Guest Artist Elizabeth Pitcairn performing on the legendary Red Stradivarius Violin.
The concert will open with Verdi’s solemn symphonic-choral masterpiece, Requiem, with soloists Joy Strotz, Anna Helwing and Irina Kasimova, sopranos; Liudmila Mullin, mezzo soprano; Michael DeWayne and Chris Nelson, tenors; Stuart Duke and Chris Langton, baritones, and includes the 70 voice Tahoe Symphony Orchestra Chorus. The Requiem is composed in seven sections, but only five will be performed. The concert concludes with famed violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn performing Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin in E minor, Op. 64, on the legendary Red Stradivarius Violin. Maestro James Rawie, TOCCATA’s Founder and Artistic Director, will conduct all performances.
The concert will be repeated on Friday, September 18, 7:00 pm, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe (1041 Lyons Ave.), and Sunday, September 20, 3:00 pm, at Cornerstone Church in Incline Village (300 Country Club Drive). The final performance of the 9/11 Memorial Concert Series will be Tuesday, September 22, 7:00 pm, at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Reno (1138 Wright Street).
Tickets for all concerts are available at the door or online at www.ToccataTahoe.com. General admission is $30 adults and $25 for seniors. Youth/students under age 23 with valid ID are $5 for seating fifteen minutes prior to concert time, and under 18 are free admission. Preferred/reserved seating is $40 and $15 for youth/students. This concert series is supported by a grant from the Kling Family Foundation.
