The Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States will honor Veterans, past and present, at our November Meeting! We will also pay tribute to our MIA’s and POW’s and celebrate both the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays. Our speaker will be Captain Robert T. Wiley, plankowner master of USNS Carson City, (T-EPF 7). Captain Wiley assumed this command on January 16, 2016 when the USNS Carson City was christened at Austal USA Shipyards in Mobile, Alabama.

NDOT to host Silver Springs public meeting to provide USA Parkway extension update
The Nevada Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting to provide updates on construction of the USA Parkway extension on Thursday, Aug. 11.

The USA Parkway was originally constructed as a privately built, six-mile-long road connecting Interstate 80 to the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center east of Sparks.

Three years of change and rebranding efforts by the Carson City Visitors Bureau (CCVB) are turning the Nevada state capital into a tourist destination, said CCVB Executive Director Joel Dunn, and no longer a point on the road map to pass through.

The "Shooting Range" fire burning in Storey County east of Reno has burned more than 1,100 acres as of Thursday morning and is about 40 percent contained, according to Storey County Manager Pat Whitten.

UPDATE 9:20PM: The New Shooting Range Fire has grown to about 800 acres in size as of last report, Storey County Manager Pat Whitten said Wednesday night.
