Carson City Toyota Scion extends Boys and Girls Club Community Challenge donation drive

Dick Campagni, a long-time donor to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, has extended the deadline for the company’s dollar to dollar match up to $10,000 in the Campagni Toyota and Scion Community Challenge to April 30. The program was originally expected to end on April 1.

“We feel it’s important to give back to our community, particularly our youth,” Campagni said. “We believe in helping kids, and the Boys & Girls Club is a great organization to partner with to keep our kids safe.”

Area students combine high school, college and internships to meet skilled worker demand

William Dakota Gershel and Timothy Ibarra, both seniors at Carson High School, have participated in Career and Technical Education programs since attending CHS as freshman. Ibarra participated in two years of auto technician courses and two years in auto body courses. Gershel experimented in a variety of CTE courses including culinary, web design and welding.

Carson High School CTE launches new manufacturing technologies program

Carson High School students will soon register for next year’s classes and will now have a new choice in the schedule as CHS’s Career and Technical Education program begins offering a new manufacturing technologies course of study in the 2016-2017 school year.

The Carson City students have been studying world hunger, commodities, production and trade throughout the semester, and the Hunger Games simulation gave them an opportunity to examine trade and barter with their peers while relating to popular culture.

Senator Square: Gearing up for the Carson High School talent show

The annual talent show is coming up at Carson High School. The event will take place 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Carson Community Center. Auditions for the talent show will be on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2:05 p.m. in the upstairs cafeteria at CHS. Audition applications can be picked up from room No. 243 or the office. The CHS talent show is only open to ninth through 12th graders at CHS and cash prizes are awarded. The CHS chapter of FBLA is hosting this event. WNC to receive $4.4 million federal grant to assist job training

More than $4.4 million in federal funding will enable Western Nevada College to offer students more services to meet the skilled labor demands of today’s businesses. WNC in Carson City was selected as Nevada’s lead community college in the nation-wide $450 million job-driven training grants, as part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training program.

Administered by the Department of Labor, Nevada’s four community colleges will receive a total of $9,921,831 from October 1 through September 30, 2018.
