Wilderness and camp training program Saturday at Nevada State Museum
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 09/09/2014 - 11:05amIn partnership with Friends of Nevada Wilderness and the U.S. Forest Service, “Family Fun Saturdays” returns to the Nevada State Museum in Carson City with a program to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act Saturday, Sept. 13.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests will explore how to set up a tent, leave no trace, name that animal, be safe and find directions using a compass. Visitors will learn skills to help plan their own camping trips to Nevada’s wild lands this fall.

Nevada state parks grants available from recreational trails program

Applications are due Friday, March 7, 2014 by 5 p.m. Federal, state, city and county governments, special governmental districts, trail organizations and private individuals are potentially eligible for the grants.

We had survived the mid-term "deselection process" (a Peace Corps term for the trainees who didn't make it--close to 50% of the students). We had endured weeks of intensive Turkish language instruction and instruction in TEFL (teaching English as a Foreign Language from some of the country's foremost experts. In addition to studying Turkish politics and culture, we wilted under the physical education requirements at 5:00 in the afternoon during a D.C.
