TravelNevada has hired Yennifer Reyes Callen as its international sales and public relations specialist, handling several of the state’s key international outreach programs.

Ski with a Forest Service ranger program begins at Heavenly resort

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit invites residents to Ski with a Ranger at Heavenly Mountain Resort beginning Friday, Jan. 22, 2016. Tours are held every Monday and Friday beginning at 1 p.m., last approximately one-hour and continue through April 1, 2016, weather permitting.

Western Nevada College lecture to bring ‘Star Wars’ fans up to date ahead of new movie

May the force be with you while attending a “Star Wars Retrospective” lecture on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory on the Carson City campus.

The public is invited to Mike Thomas’ free lecture that will summarize the previous six films and provide attendees with a better understanding of the storyline in advance of the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Acclaimed WNC exhibit 'Always Lost: A Meditation on War' opens Monday in Reno

Washoe County will host an opening ceremony Monday for Western Nevada College's acclaimed arts and humanities exhibition “Always Lost: A Meditation on War” in Building B of its Administration Complex, 1001 E. Ninth Street in Reno.

WNC's Western Nevada Musical Theatre recognized as launchpad to professional careers

As the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company celebrates its 25th anniversary with a long-awaited production of “Mary Poppins,” weekends, Nov. 6 through 21, the company is also reflecting on the impact it has made in Northern Nevada.

Carson City Manager Joins the Nevada State EB-5 Regional Center’s Board of Directors

The Nevada State EB-5 (NVEB-5) Regional Center in Carson City has named Carson City Manager Nick Marano as a member to its Board of Directors. Marano was elected to the position.

Additionally, Marano mentors at the Adams Hub for Innovation and is a member of the Western Nevada College Institutional Advisory Council. Further, he has been an active member of International City Managers’ Association.

Dayton Valley hosts 21st Q-school with first stage Web.com qualifying tourney next week

Dayton, Nev. — When the PGA Tour changed the qualifying process in 2013 to make the Web.com Tour the primary avenue to PGA Tour membership, the move was met with surprise, concerns and speculation. Now with two seasons in the books and the third Web.com Tour Q-school process underway for the 2016 season, it has proven to be a very good decision for both Tours and the players.

With players competing in a full season of Web.com Tour tournaments, the 50 who earn a PGA Tour spot each year are Tour battle-tested and ready and able to compete at the highest level.

Tahoe South goes big with revitalization, major enhancements into 2015-16 winter season

Tahoe South is destination vacation central for the 2015-16 ski season with more than $200 million in major enhancements in lodging, recreation and dining hot spot renovations that are underway.

From slope-side to beachfront and all points in between, the ongoing revitalization opens the gates to additional places to stay, shop, dine, play, recreate and experience the Tahoe lifestyle. Major news continues with the Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe, which broke ground Oct. 1.

Nevada Health Centers, Carson City School District open new school-based health facility

The Carson City School District and Nevada Health Centers announced that it will open a new school-based health center on Musser Street behind the Professional Development Center, formerly Gleason Elementary School.

To facilitate the opening, there were be a ribbon cutting celebration Thursday with the Carson City Chamber of Commerce and officials from the Carson City School District and Nevada Health Centers Tours and refreshments will be provided. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. This center is located at 618 W. Musser Street.

Navy sailors to perform volunteer services in Carson City

Fifteen sailors from Carrier Air Wing Three of Virginia Beach, VA will be in Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 10 to perform volunteer work at some of our most historic sites.

The sailors will be training at Fallon Naval Air Station and when in any community perform volunteer duties to “leave each place we visit in better condition,” according to Lt. Robert D Fasnacht, group leader.

Get your wing fix Firkin and Fox: it’s all you can eat chicken wings today. Save room for dessert, though, National Ice Cream Cone Day is worth celebrating.
