The weekend has arrived and it’s bringing a plethora of activity with it. Car lovers will want to head to the Silver Dollar Car Classic at the Max Casino, known as the Carson Station just a few days ago. The Classic moves to Mills Park for the weekend. If the Mustangs and Broncos you prefer are horses, rather than Fords, you’ll want to grab a ticket to the Bull Riding Competition at the State Fair. Carnival rides, circus performances, and live music will keep everyone entertained. Make sure to catch the shuttle from the Casino Fandango parking garage: parking at Fuji Park is extremely limited. ‘Break a leg’ to the cast of Peter Pan. Youth Theater Carson City opens tonight at the Community Center.

Let’s all go to the Fair! The grand opening and ribbon cutting is at Fuji Park at noon. Funnel cakes, clowns, rabbits, circus games and more await. If you’re a classic car lover, then the Plaza Hotel is the place for you. The annual Silver Dollar Car Classic kicks off tonight with music and more before it moves on to its traditional place at Mills Park. Jelly Bread is in town and playing a free show at Sassafras, and celebrate your July birthday at the Carson Cigar Bar with their monthly birthday bash.

Welcome to Tuesday, Carson City. We have survived Monday and are on our way to a very busy weekend. It’s a wine walk weekend, the Nevada Fair is in town, and classic cars will be everywhere as the Silver Dollar Car Classic rolls into town. Take a moment and enjoy today for what it is: a gorgeous sunny day in Northern Nevada. Head over to El Charro Avita if you’ve always wanted to learn to swing dance. Take the kids to a puppet performance of Aladdin at the Library. Or head to Carson Lanes for their one dollar bowling special and stick around for some line dancing.

Fridays at Firkin returns with Road Daddy playing on the Third Street Stage. The Whitehats are getting the party started at Carson Station.

This fourth Thursday of July has been declared National Refreshment Day; teamed up with National Hot Dog Day and Vanilla Ice Cream Day, today should be yummy. More good eats can be found at the Farmers Market in Dayton. All you can eat wings at Firkin and Fox is a popular way to spend a Thursday, or sample something exotic at curry-tasting at Foodies Bystro inside the Brewery Arts Center.

The first anniversary celebration at Living the Good Life features Toree McGee in her first Nevada appearance. Sassafras is proud to host Wake Eastman and his special brand of outlaw honky-tonk. Grab some laughs at the Carson Nugget: Comedy night welcomes Justin Berkman. Dancers will enjoy World Dance Open Floor at Comma Coffee or swing dance at Yaple’s ballroom.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the middle of July, and the Nevada Fair at Fuji will be upon us in no time. Head over to the Carson Visitor Center by the Museum and pick up a discounted pass for the Carnival: just $20 for a day of unlimited rides. Take a look at the list of things to do for some fun options tonight: music, dancing, karaoke. There is a special symposium at the Brewery Arts Center featuring speakers and experts on the transgender community that will be ready for your questions.

The Second Tuesday of the month always means jazz. The Mile High Jazz Band performs tonight at Comma Coffee with vocalist Cindee LeVal. What a crazy week in the Sierras! Afternoon thunderstorms for the last several days, flooding, hail, and even snow in Yosemite are definitely unusual for this time of year. The storms are expected to subside this weekend, so keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine. Break a leg to the Proscenium Players as they open Murder in an English Manor at the Brewery Arts Center. Senior Follies debuts this year’s performance, Flashback, at the Community Center.

The Nevada State Fair is coming to town at the end of the month. A limited number of parking passes are available at City Hall starting today, and discounted all-day carnival ride passes are for sale at the Visitor Center. The four days of fun start July 30. Over the next few days you will be inundated with options: where to go, what to see. Fourth of July weekend in Northern Nevada is a great time. Take a look at the skies while you’re atop the Ferris Wheel. Today is World UFO Day. Nevada has a reputation for its many UFO sightings, so if the clouds aren’t in the way, you may just see some strange lights. July 2nd was chosen because of the Roswell Incident in 1947.

Are you ready for the weekend, Carson City? I know that the Taste of Downtown is hard to beat, but the new Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly has thrown its hat in the ring. Live music, vendors, competitions that test motorcycle driving skill and moustache growing ability. The brewfest and tasting is tomorrow night, but the fun will begin today at noon. Shine up your hot rod, the Karson Kruzers’ Run Whatcha Brung Show hits Fuji Park tomorrow, but you can register and show off your ride tonight in the Carson Nugget Parking Lot.

We made it, Carson City! It’s Friday, and the first day of summer is this weekend. The Reno Rodeo has begun, and there are several days to get in on the action. Tonight, Carson City BMX is hosting Race for Life, and anyone with a bmx bike and a helmet can participate in helping them raise funds for a good cause. The annual Powwow kicks off at the Stewart Indian School with Grand Entrance at 7 p.m. Head to Comma Coffee and celebrate eleven years of World Dance Open Floor: just watch or sign up to show your moves.

June is National Soul Food Month, so my suggestion for today is a trip to Sassafras for some New Orleans inspired grub and a great free concert. Songwriter Bryan Hayes will be in house for one night to help promote his new album ‘Farther Down the Line.’ Check out the Official Video for his new Single ‘I Wanna Run.’ The song was written in Mosul, Iraq, and one of Bryan's soldiers, SGT Zach Tucker, is featured in the video.

The weather app on my phone says that it’s supposed to be a sunny weekend hitting a high around 91 degrees. That sounds like summer to me! Get out and enjoy our valley and the surrounding towns, there will be plenty of good times. Carson Valley Days has begun in our neighbor to the south, complete with carnival at Lampe Park. Tonight, welcome a new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery at the Courthouse: a reception for the artists of ‘Industrial Arts’ begins at 5 p.m. Meet the Journey of Hope bike riders at Western Nevada College; plenty of activities for everyone.

Welcome to Tuesday, Carson City. There is chance of rain this afternoon, so spend some time indoors checking out the new exhibit in the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. ‘Industrial Art’ presents the design work of five manufacturers in the the area including American AVK, CGI Inc., Click Bond Inc., Silver State Stainless, and Vineburg Machining Inc. The official opening reception is Friday at 5 p.m. Or enjoy the art at the Nevada Arts Council, inside the BRIC building on Proctor, inside the Sierra Room of the Community Center, or in the two galleries at the Brewery Arts Center.

FISH, also known as Friends in Service Helping, would like to thank all the celebrity waiters and their guests who made the 2015 Have a Heart Celebration on May 16 a huge success. Community members raised over $30,000 for the human services organization. All of the donations will be used to fund FISH’s programs for the homeless and hungry, including a food bank, a family dining room, two homeless shelters, and a clinic.

I have a confession to make. I love Carson City. I’m fifth generation Nevadan, and have been in Carson since I was three years old. I created a Facebook page called ‘I Love Carson City’ almost three years ago because I was getting tired of hearing ‘nothing ever happens in Carson’ or worse ‘I would have gone to that if I had known about it.’ That is why I do what I do. I am a long time local. I love my valley: the people, the views, the restaurants, the parks, the bands and artists. Community is what community does. We are as great as we want to be. Support your local venues, artists, non-profits, and they can do wonders. Read my list of things to do: I follow almost every local Facebook page and check out over 30 websites weekly to keep it as up to date as possible.

So much is going on today that I don’t even know how to fit it in this introduction.

Wine and cheese are a much better alternative to flies anyday. It’s National Cheese Day and Old Maids Day, so all you single ladies go celebrate; an old maid ain’t what it used to be. For those of you with kids, head over to the Carson City Library to visit with Mother Goose: she knows what to do if one swallows a fly.
