Fire awareness events this weekend in Carson City

There will be a Community Open House, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

How about with a Slurpee? 7-Eleven is having a ‘bring your own cup’ day and if your vessel fits through a ten inch cut-out hole, then you can fill it up for $1.49. Get creative! Take that slushy treat with you to the kick-off of the Carson City BMX season at the Livermore Sports Complex. Play some games at Nerdvana as they celebrate International Tabletop Day, or enjoy the bounce house, face painting, games and more at the WNC Deaf Fun Day to cap off Deaf Pride Week.

Easter fun can be found this weekend at the annual EGGstravaganza at Carson Tahoe Medical Center, the Children’s Museum, the Carson Mall, and the Brewery Arts Center.
Head over to Mills Park for the Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration, complete with military vehicles, exhibits, and more. For demonstrations from soldiers with an even older history, the Nevada Civil War Volunteers will be in Dayton Saturday.

Details emerge on female body found buried in shallow grave near Carson City cemetery
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 03/20/2015 - 4:19pmCarson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said Friday that the body wrapped in a sleeping bag and discovered Tuesday by a hiker off trail by Lone Mountain Cemetery was a woman, who may have been associated with a local homeless population. Photos of the woman's belongings have been provided.

Body found on Carson City hiking trail was inside sleeping bag
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 03/17/2015 - 11:34amUPDATE 7:48PM: A mostly decomposed body inside of a sleeping bag was removed from a shallow two-foot grave on Lone Mountain, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. Details regarding the identity, gender and age are pending an autopsy scheduled for Wednesday. No other details are available at this time.

UPDATE 4:48PM: The body found by a hiker Tuesday morning off a hiking trail in the hills above Lone Mountain Cemetery has been removed and an autopsy will be performed Wednesday morning, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Outdoors with Don Q: Heat, fruit, traffic and travel this winter

In those past years, it was a welcomed change from the ice, snow and cold of this general area to the warmth and lushness of the desert southwest.

The High Sierra Swing Dance Club hosts its monthly Swing Dance Party in the Ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center Saturday night. Carson City Sheriff's Office seeks information on 2 robberies in less than 11 hours
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 02/17/2015 - 5:26pmThe Carson City Sheriff’s Office is investigating two armed robberies that happened within 10 hours apart. These two robberies are not considered to be committed by the same person, but cannot be ruled out as of yet.
Monday late evening, at approximately 8:09 p.m., Carson City sheriff’s deputies responded to Adam and Eve, located at 3220 Highway 50 East for a reported armed robbery.
