Carson City man arrested for child neglect after unrestrained toddler falls out of moving car
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 07/01/2014 - 10:46amA 29-year-old man was arrested Monday on gross misdemeanor charges of child neglect and endangerment after the man's unrestrained 18-month old son fell out of a moving car, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.
The incident was witnessed by an off-duty Carson City deputy near a gas station in the 2100 block of North Carson Street at around 10 a.m. According to the arrest report, deputies and an ambulance were called to the scene where the off-duty deputy saw the toddler fall out of the car.
Truckee River Cleanup July 12
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 06/26/2014 - 9:35amAs part of the University of Nevada, Reno's Summer of Sustainability, they are having a Truckee River Cleanup, Saturday, July 22, 2014, from 8 to 11 a.m., at Rock Park, 1515 Rock Blvd.,in Sparks.
The University's partner in this event, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, will be providing the tools and the training.
A few things to note:
1. Water will be provided, but bring a water bottle.
2. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.
3. Bring sunscreen and wear a hat.
4. Bring work gloves if you have them.

Washoe Lake State Park hosts Summer Solstice astronomy party

The Summer Solstice Astronomy Party runs from from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. or later at the Maze/Playground (Overflow) parking area inside Washoe Lake State Park.
Carson City Sheriff's Office weekend arrest log
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 06/02/2014 - 6:00pmA 23-year-old Carson City man faces felony burglary and drug charges after allegedly walking out of Kohl's department store Sunday with merchandise, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy said.
Jac Michael Owen was arrested after store security observed him take a t-shirt and two pairs of shorts into the fitting room and then exiting with them concealed. The security guard stated the man then left the store without attempting to pay for the items, leaving in a 2002 Chrysler Prowler.

He was entering a turn but, for some reason he continued straight. When he realized this, he locked his brakes, hit the curb and then he went down hard onto the sidewalk and across the rocks.

Safety campaign urges Nevada motorcyclists to slow down, lay off the booze when riding

Fifty-three motorcyclists died on Nevada roadways in 2013, surpassing the previous year’s number of fatalities by 39 percent, according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.
Across the nation, May is Motorcycle Safety Month, focused on the motorcycle as an important form of transportation, and reminding its riders and all motorists of important safety guidelines.

Two women arrested after early morning vehicle chase with Carson City sheriff's deputies
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 04/30/2014 - 1:55pmTwo women were arrested early Wednesday morning after leading Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies on a vehicle chase that ended off road near the water tower off of Koontz Lane.
Amber Wolfe, 22, was arrested at 1:59 a.m. and faces felony charges of eluding and being in violation of probation conditions. She also faces lesser charges of reckless driving and operating a vehicle with expired registration. The Winnemucca woman is being held without bail on the probation violation charge and $20,000 bail on the eluding charge.

Hundreds of shoppers arrive at Carson Mall for Bealls department store grand opening

Bealls store manager Kessn Flitton said customers filed into the 24,000-square-foot store for the grand opening ribbon cutting, taking advantage of bargains, sales, 25 percent off coupons, shopping sprees, gift card and merchandise giveaways.
At least 300 customers went through cashier lines within the first hour of opening, said Regional Manager Lewis Rael.

Carson City man jailed on felony vehicle burglary charges, allegedly smashes car windows
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 03/18/2014 - 8:50amA 19-year-old Carson City man faces three felony counts vehicle burglary after he allegedly smashed the windows of several vehicles in 700 block of Silver Oak Drive Wednesday night.
Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Jacob Vizenor, who also faces four gross misdemeanor charges of tampering with motor vehicles and three misdemeanor charges, including battery, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. His bail has been set at $88,011.
