UPDATE 8:50PM: More information has been released regarding Wednesday's lockdown at Carson Middle School, which proved to be false after a 12-year-old boy confessed to cooking up a story about two students loading a black handgun in a restroom.

Chase in Carson City involving stolen car ends with crash, three taken to hospital

UPDATE: A vehicle chase in Carson City on Saturday afternoon involving a stolen car ended with a crash at Highway 50 and Fairview and two injured being air lifted by Care Flight. A third person was taken by ambulance. All three have non life-threatening injuries, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirmed.

Two Care Flight helicopters landed on Highway 50 and took two of the injured to Renown Medical Center in Reno. Two suspects in a Mazda Miata that was reported stolen out of Sparks, crashed into an unsuspecting vehicle occupied by a woman, Sheriff Furlong said.

Carson City Cops and Kids open house lives up to its 'safest party on the street' reputation

With sunny skies, a gentle breeze and plenty of children and their parents, the 10th annual Cops and Kids open house, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Saturday, lived up to its reputation as the safest party on the street.

More than 2,000 attended the four-hour event, which featured games, prizes and demonstrations by Carson City Sheriff's Office patrol officers and personnel. The event is designed for children and their parents to get quality meet-and-greet face time with law enforcement personnel.

No explosives found at Carson City DMV after search; man jailed on unrelated charges

UPDATE: The Nevada Highway Patrol reports no explosives were found inside the DMV in Carson City after a disgruntled man left two packages inside on Tuesday afternoon.

A bomb squad from Douglas County did a sweep of the DMV and the Department of Public Safety building after it was evacuated, the Nevada HIghway Patrol reports. A 65-year-old Silver City man, Charles Leigh Self, was arrested on unrelated charges following the incident. The man was originally reported to be from Silver Springs.

Carson City Sheriff's Office flag dedication has deep roots

The Carson City Sheriff’s Honor Guard and Chaplain dedicated a new flag pole at the administrative complex on Wednesday. The ceremony kicked off a second presentation where three deputies were awarded the “Life Saving Medal” for assertive medical actions resulting in the saving of a life. Deputy Matt Putzer, John Hitch, and Chris Ramos all received medals for their service. The ceremony was concluded as Deputy Bill Richards was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Carson City search and rescue find body in overturned SUV up Ash Canyon

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirms that a body has been found inside an overturned SUV about three miles up Ash Canyon. The incident is believed to be suicide after receiving reports the person had said they were going to end their life, the sheriff added.

Carson City fire and rescue, search and rescue and sheriff's office patrol deputies made their way up Ash Canyon Sunday afternoon after the over-turned SUV-type vehicle was found. The body inside the vehicle was said to require extrication.

Manhunt ends at Carson High School bus yard with arrest

UPDATE 6:10PM: A manhunt ended at the Carson High School bus yard early Friday night with the arrest of a suspect believed to have intentionally rammed a Carson City Sheriff's patrol vehicle after a chase in a stolen car late Thursday.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies had been searching for the man since Thursday night and found him hiding inside a school bus in the vehicle maintenance yard of Carson High School. He was taken into custody at 5:24 p.m.

Four suspects in custody, three men and one woman, now face murder charges in connection with the disappearance of a Nevada insurance examiner, presumed dead after a body was discovered bound and duct taped in the Carson River on Saturday, authorities said.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong released new information in the investigation into the disappearance of insurance examiner William McCune.

Furlong told KOLO 8 News Now all four suspects in the case are cooperating with the investigation. Partly because of that cooperation, all four suspects' booking charges have been upgraded to murder charges.

Body found in Carson River believed to be Nevada insurance examiner; four in custody

UPDATE: The body of a man believed to be an insurance examiner for Nevada who was reported missing Thursday and whose apartment was ransacked, was found Saturday morning in the Carson River. It was wrapped in a blanket and bound in duct tape, authorities said. An autopsy has been finished.

Four now face murder charges after two of the suspects charges were upgraded. They are Michael Paul Evans, 23, who was found in Carson City early Saturday morning. Three others, two men and one woman, were arrested in Las Vegas and have been cooperating with authorities, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said. They are Anthony Elliott, 20; Makyla L. Blackmore, 20 and Raul Garcia, 22. Residential robbery is believed to be the motive, Furlong told KOLO.

Evans was booked into the Carson City Jail and faces charges of murder, murder of an older person, battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm and burglary. Bail is $550,000.

According to Sheriff Furlong, during the early morning hours on Saturday, the Carson City Special Enforcement Team coordinated with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and arrested the three, who are expected to be returned to Carson City within the week.

Carson City authorities search for missing state employee; disappearance appears suspicious

Carson City authorities are looking for a state employee, an insurance examiner, who is missing and may be endangered.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports William McCune, 62, a resident of an apartment complex on Silver Oak Drive is missing and the circumstances are suspicious.
McCune's vehicle, a 2000 maroon Dodge pickup, is missing and there appears to have been some kind of struggle in the man's apartment. The apartment appeared to be ransacked and blood was found.

Woman killed in Carson City pedestrian hit and run on Highway 50; one in custody

UPDATE 10:38AM: A 48-year-old Dayton woman was arrested and faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of a hit and run causing death following the Sunday night fatality of a woman on Highway 50 in Carson City.

Cynthia Ann Munroe is free on $10,000 bail following the incident in which she is the suspected driver in the pedestrian hit and run, authorities said. She was driving a black 1999 Ford Explorer, authorities said. The fatal was reported shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday night. The name of the woman killed has not been released.

Carson City teens admit to vandalism spree, one still being sought

An 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old juvenile male were arrested Tuesday and admitted to a vandalism spree that marred the west side of Carson City on Sunday.

Active weekend for Carson City authorities with vandalism discovery, DUI and drug-related arrests

Carson City authorities remained busy over the weekend, making several DUI and drug-related arrests.
Officers responded to cases involving stalking, threats and assault, arrest records from this weekend show. Also, the investigation continues into Sunday's vandalism discovery on the west side of Carson City where several vehicles, a church, school and homes were damaged either by BB gun shots or rocks.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said that as of Monday morning reports of vandalism were still coming into the sheriff's office. There have been up to about a dozen reports of vandalism done to cars, houses, schools, businesses and a church, he said.

Vandals strike west side of Carson City with BB guns and rocks; homes, vehicles, school and church hit

UPDATE: The Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating at least eight instances of vandalism Sunday in which homes, vehicles, Carson Middle School and a church were hit with BBs shot from a gun and rocks thrown into windows. Vehicle windows were also shot along the same block as the Governor's Mansion.

Officers began getting reports at around 6 a.m. of vandalism where residential and vehicle windows were hit with BBs and rocks, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Capt. Clay Wall. The vandalism appears to be on the west side of Carson Street.

'Dancing with the Stars' Carson City Edition set for Saturday

Carson City woman stabbed in arm, suspect remains at large

UPDATE 6:15PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong provided more details into Thursday afternoon's stabbing. The woman who was assaulted and found near Fall and Corbett streets suffered a deep cut to the arm. Her injuries are non-life threatening. The victim reported that she knows the suspect and told investigators he was an ex-boyfriend, said Sheriff Furlong.
The man is described as Hispanic, with a long dark ponytail, 5 foot 8 inches tall, and a build of about 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and black or dark pants.

Hit and run victim identified as John 'Randy' Boggs, a Carson City contractor

The name of the victim who died Friday morning in a pedestrian hit and run incident has been identified as John Boggs of Carson City, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Boggs, 46, was married and had a son in high school. Boggs, who went by "Randy" was the owner of Randy Boggs Construction and was a general contractor, his wife told Carson Now.

His wife, who didn't want to be identified at this time, said the family is hoping the person who hit and killed her husband will turn himself into authorities.

At least four in custody after auto theft chase in Carson City

At least four people are in custody today and face charges of auto theft after allegedly stealing vehicles over the past several days, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports.

The four subjects, believed to be men and possibly a juvenile, are believed to be involved in the theft of two cars this morning alone in which a vehicle was reported stolen, was recovered and then stolen again, Furlong said. More arrests were in the making late this morning at an apartment at 2808 Menlo Drive.

"This thing has mushroomed. We think there's more to this than stolen vehicles," Furlong said.

Carson City Sheriff: Fatal shooting may have been over a child custody exchange

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong released more details in the shooting Sunday night that left a Carson City man dead. James Lay, 32, of Carson City, was fatally shot in the chest Sunday night in the 900 block of West Washington Street.
