Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 31st season of the Nutcracker Ballet, a Feast with a Hero fundraiser at Slot World, Small Business Saturday throughout Carson City and Carson Valley, photos with Santa, a Telegraph Square sign dedication, Polar Express train rides at the V&T Railroad and more!

Carson City Board of Supervisors to discuss Butti Way affordable housing proposal Dec. 5

The Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Dec. 5 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

On the docket for discussion is the sale of property to Carson Tahoe Regional Health Care, development of affordable/workforce housing near Butti Way, purchasing a new radio dispatch console system and public safety audio equipment and more.

Happy Thanksgiving 2019: Carson City events for Thursday, Nov. 28

The last Thursday of November means a big gobble gobble, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy in the games, festivities, activities at home and outdoors. Events are at a minimum, for obvious reasons, but the two big ones are traditions for us in the capital city. The Carson City Turkey Trot at the Governor's Mansion and the free Carson Nugget Thanksgiving community dinner. Enjoy your day and any slight break in the weather. More winter storms are on the way.

With snow overnight into the morning, the eve of Thanksgiving will bustle with last minute food shopping and, for many, preparing for an extended holiday weekend. WNC employees raise $1,220 to donate 1,500 pounds of food to FISH’s High Five Turkey Drive

The generosity of the Western Nevada College community has made it possible to feed 100 families Thanksgiving dinner.  WNC contributed 100 turkeys and other Thanksgiving dinner favorites to Friends In Services Helping’s annual High Five Turkey Drive.

Carson City's Vitalant, located at 256 E Winnie Ln, is hosting a food drive and gift drive now through Dec. 22 to benefit Northern Nevada Dream Center and the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Nevada.

Gifts can be any age range so long as they are unwrapped.

Parent Representative Volunteers Needed for Family Life Committee

The Carson City School District is seeking one (1) more application from a parent to serve as a member on the district’s Family Life Committee. An initial request for four (4) applications was made a month ago in October, and the district was able to appoint three (3) new members of the committee; however, the school district is still needing to fill one more seat.

Salvation Army hosts 22nd annual Carson City Turkey Drop this Friday at Max Casino

A community that shares is a community that cares. Capital City residents, known to go above and beyond in their generosity during the holiday season, are invited to participate in this Friday's 22nd annual Carson City Turkey Drop hosted by the Salvation Army, Max Casino and KKFT 99.1.

DeBug Computer is hosting its annual Photos with Santa event on Saturday, Nov. 30, between 3 and 6 p.m. at its Carson City location, 1817 N. Stewart Street #30.

Keith Barham, president and co-owner of DeBug Computer, said this the seventh year the company has hosted the event, and each year, all proceeds are donated to an area non-profit.

Meals on Wheels Carson City joins Subaru in sharing the love this holiday season

CARSON CITY — Meals on Wheels Carson City joins the 2019 Subaru Share the Love event as a member of Meals on Wheels America — one of four national Share the Love charitable partners supported through the campaign. From Nov. 14, 2019, through Jan. 2, 2020, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer's choice of participating charities.

Donate blood, get a Wolf Pack t-shirt and beat UNLV: Drive at UNR, Reno and Carson City

The Wolf Pack community can help the University of Nevada, Reno transform lives by donating blood this Thanksgiving season. The blood drive, brought to campus by the Associated Students of the University of Nevada and Vitalant (formerly United Blood Services), is scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 27. There are four locations, all taking blood on this day; no appointments necessary.

Nevada jobs up over the year in October, unemployment remains unchanged

CARSON CITY — Employment in Nevada fell by 1,800 jobs over the month but is up 30,800 over the year, according to data released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate is unchanged from September, at 4.1 percent, and is down 0.3 percentage point when compared to last October.

Department of Public Safety appoints new Nevada Highway Patrol Colonel

CARSON CITY — Nevada Department of Public Safety Director George Togliatti announced the appointment of Daniel Solow as Colonel of the Nevada Highway Patrol effective Monday, Nov. 8, 2019.

Colonel Solow was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in December 2017 and has been with the Department since 1995, beginning his career with the Nevada DPS as a Trooper serving the Laughlin/Searchlight district. The previous NHP Colonel, John O'Rourke, retired in August 2019.
