Carson Tahoe Health, Rotary of Carson City celebrate Labyrinth anniversary and partnership

Wednesday marks 13 years since the opening of the outdoor Labyrinth located at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. The unique space was made possible through a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Carson City.

In 2006, under the leadership of past president Rafael Cappucci, the Rotary Club contributed $75,000 to build the Labyrinth, and gave another $200,000 in support of the Cancer Center project over a four-year period.

Carson City area Salvation Army to host holiday season job fair this Tuesday

The Salvation Army in Carson City will hold a job fair on this Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to noon. The Salvation Army will be hiring seasonal workers to help with their holiday programs such as Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas food drives and Angel Tree Christmas toy distribution.

The 2019 season for CHS girls golf was a great experience for everyone on the team. This year, the team was comprised of five girls: Karen Beglin, Sophia Taggart, Karrina Ferris, Brooke Gudmundson, myself, and our coaches, Wade Greenlee and Jack Butler.

Veteran Advocate and Humanitarian Ronald Gutzman

Ronald Gutzman passed peacefully on 10/23/2019 at the age of 84. He served in the marine corps as a control tower operator, graduated with two master’s in mathematics and became a principal for Las Vegas school district in 1963. Ron was involved in copious organizations and groups such as the Disabled Veterans of America, Marine Corps League, and American Legion member where he tirelessly advocated for veterans.

Sheryl Gonzales, Executive Director of Western Nevada Development District in Carson City, was recently elected to the National Association of Development Organizations Board of Directors. NADO was founded in 1967 to provide training, information, and representation for regional development organizations throughout the United States.

Senator Square: Walmart awards Carson High School cheerleaders $5,000 grant

Carson High School cheerleaders cheered as they entered Walmart in Carson City and then performed two more cheers on top of that. There is an old saying found in a very old book which says, “You have not because you ask not.”

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

Make a Difference in Someone's Life

Nevada Rural Counties RSVP program is seeking a part-time homemaker to provide assistance to Carson City Seniors in need of essential homemaker services.

Homemakers are contract employees who can earn $10 an hour for approximately 20 hours a week.

Duties include homemaker and chore assistance with housekeeping such as dusting, kitchen and bathroom cleaning, floor maintenance, laundry and linen changing for individuals 60 and older.

know it’s weird. But every Fall, I don’t rush for the pumpkin spice lattes and the sweaters. It takes me awhile to embrace what some would call their favorite season. Forest Service facilities closing for season in Lake Tahoe Basin

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has begun closing recreational facilities around the Tahoe Basin for the winter season. Nevada jobs in September up over month and year, unemployment unchanged

CARSON CITY — September employment numbers in Nevada show jobs up by 6,000 over the month and 45,200 over the year. The state’s unemployment rate is unchanged from August, at 4.1 percent, and down 0.4 percentage point when compared to last September, according to figures released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
