Blessing ceremony Wednesday at Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum

CARSON CITY — Spiritual leaders from the Paiute, Washoe and Western Shoshone tribes will hold a special blessing ceremony at the site of the future Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum this Wednesday, July 11.

Arts Council hosts reception, artist talk with Reno photographer Tuesday

A free reception and artist talk by Reno photographer Paul Baker Prindle will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery in Carson City.

The reception starts at 5:30 p.m. and the artist talk at 6:15 p.m.

For nearly a decade, Baker Prindle has documented sites from California to New York that look extraordinarily ordinary, downright banal. Yet each of these places and their everyday landscapes has a horrific story to tell. Each photograph is of a location where gay men, lesbians and transgender individuals were murdered.

The Nevada Artists Association (NAA) invites the public to the Grand Re-Opening of its gallery at 449 King Street in Carson City from 4-6 PM on Saturday, February 24. The event, which will include live music and refreshments, also marks the opening of the Winter Show, a judged show open to members and non-members alike.
The gallery, adjacent to the Brewery Arts Center complex, was refurbished during the winter and refreshed with new carpet, paint and lighting.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "ART from WNC," at the Community Development Building (the Brick) 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Eleven student artists from Western Nevada College, Carson City, have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public now through April 12, 2018; the building is open Monday - Friday, 8am – noon, 1-4pm.

"ART from WNC" includes a wide variety of art including graphic design, drawing, photography, and watercolor painting that show the diversity of the students’ creativity.

Memory Of Longtime CVMC Patient Carried On In Donated Photographs

When Carlos Iribarren — a longtime Carson Valley resident and former co-owner of the Carson Valley Country Club — passed away at the age of 71 last spring, his family made a special request of friends and loved ones.

Instead of flowers, the family asked that memorial donations be made to the Infusion Center at Carson Valley Medical Center, where Carlos had been a longtime patient.

The family expressed thanks to the entire staff of the Infusion Center in Iribarren’s published obituary, noting the care of registered nurse Lori Salvador in particular.

Students will develop painting techniques and skills in this open studio class. Work on your own paintings from subject mater you chose for yourself as you take your art to the next level. Create artwork based on realism, abstraction, landscape, portraiture, or whatever style you prefer. Learn artistic technique, such as composition, color, paint application, texture, and expression. The instructor will provide one on one instruction throughout the class. 

Students may use oil, acrylic, or watercolor paint. Dry media is also welcome.

Work on your own projects from subject mater you chose for yourself as you continue to improve your skills. The first 15 minutes of class will be instruction involving drawing techniques, and the rest of class you will apply what you learn while you work on your own individual work with help and instruction as needed.

Bring your own drawing supplies and source materials (such as photographs or drawings you wish to paint).
