Carson City-based Pets of the Homeless receives check from holiday fundraiser

The nation's homeless received a boost for their pets Thursday when Downtown Coin owner Dan Wilson presented Pets of the Homeless founder Genevieve Frederick with a $500 check from Chef Don Pepe Paz, owner of Carpa Nevada in Carson City.

Say hello to Judith, which may be the greatest name for a cat I've ever heard. Judith is a classy, easy going domestic shorthair gal who wants nothing more than a good scratch and a loving home.

Judith will turn 13 next month, and she's looking to retire.

Tibetan monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery will return to Carson City and South Lake Tahoe this month as part of their two-year tour of the United States.

During their Carson City visit, from Jan. 15-20, the monks will construct a Manjushri, also known as Buddha of Wisdom Sand Mandala.
