After seasonal weather over the past few weeks brought periods of gusty wind, some valley showers and a few inches of snow to the Sierra, the Carson City region will be riding into a late spring heat wave this week, with daytime temperatures hot enough to force on those cooling fans and air conditioners.

The weather is warming up quickly across Nevada, making it a perfect time to enjoy the outdoors. Fitness experts recognize how beneficial physical activity is to mental health, especially in light of the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Getting outdoors is a great way to get active, synthesize vitamin D with controlled sun exposure, improve memory and concentration and promote a general sense of well being.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak will hold a news conference at 5 p.m. Thursday to outline the Silver State's "Roadmap to Recovery" strategy to open business while maintaining COVID-19 medical and safety measures.

On August 12, 2019, Nevada native, Daniel S. Judd joined Allison MacKenzie Law Firm as a new associate attorney. Tuesday evening made for spectacular photography as the sun was setting throughout western Nevada and Sierra. These photos of the wave of standing lenticular clouds were taken by Nicole Hooper in Dayton. The first three show the range of the cloud formations and the fourth photo was taken Wednesday morning, where Hooper notes "this morning was pretty too."

Cool, showery weather, with periods of steadier precipitation, will continue into the Memorial Day weekend. However, snow levels are forecast to rise above 7,500 feet from Wednesday evening onward for diminishing snowfall impacts in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

The second annual Kids to Parks Day was a jam-packed day full out outdoor activities at the Silver Saddle Ranch on Saturday in Carson City.

To celebrate Kids to Parks Day, children of all ages got the hands-on experience of outdoor recreation and safety through several informative booths and exciting activities around the ranch.

Due to anticipated cold, wet, windy weather conditions Carson City Sheriff’s Office regrets to inform the community of the cancellation of the Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party which was scheduled for Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

An unusual and persistent weather pattern will send cold Pacific storms into the Carson City region Wednesday through early next week, a pattern that is more typical of early March rather than late May.

For Carson City and throughout western Nevada we can expect periods of rain and strong gusty winds and for the Sierra, heavy wet snow starting at around 8,000 feet and dropping to 6,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

One of the great things about our high desert climate is is how quickly conditions can change. Heading into Tuesday we're looking at breezy conditions and sunny skies, with a shift in the weather Wednesday. But for now, let's enjoy Tuesday, May 14, with indoor and outdoor activities including three separate Muscle Powered hosted events, an archery shoot, Big Band Jazz at Living the Good Life and more. The 16th annual Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office administration building, 911 East Musser Street.

A low pressure system moving into the Carson City region will bring strong gusty winds Sunday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for much of Western Nevada.

With daytime high temperatures in the low 70s, Sunday could just about be a near-perfect day for outdoor activities in celebration of September's swan song.
