Gusty winds and low humidity will arrive in the Carson City and Sierra region Tuesday along with a cooling weather pattern, which has prompted the National Service to issue a fire weather watches and warnings.

First West Nile Virus case of 2018 confirmed in Carson City, Douglas County

Carson City Health and Human Services and Douglas County Mosquito Abatement are reporting Thursday the first human case of West Nile virus in the Carson City, Douglas County area for 2018. The individual confirmed to have West Nile Virus was diagnosed with the less severe form of the illness.

Carson City weekend weather: Cool down ahead, gusty winds Sunday

With a cool down of temperatures around the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas this weekend, there are also gusty winds expected to arrive Sunday, which has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Fire Weather Watch for much of northern and western Nevada.

Wearing matching team T-shirts and comfortable walking shoes, a few will have their walkers or canes in hand, but that’s okay, said Amanda Jenkins, administrator at Summit Estates. “Life is a journey and our residents embrace new experiences and challenges regardless of their age or physical abilities. They are physically and mentally ready to conquer this year’s race.”

Carson City Health: Human case of West Nile virus reported in Lyon County

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Thursday the first human case of West Nile virus in Lyon County for 2018.

The Disease Control and Prevention Division at CCHHS oversees disease surveillance and investigations in Lyon County and is the agency monitoring the situation. The individual confirmed to have West Nile virus was diagnosed with the less severe form of the illness. The exposure to WNV through mosquito bites occurred out of state.

Air quality in Douglas reaches 'hazardous' level Monday, Carson City sees 'unhealthy' status

UPDATE 12:08PM: As of noon Monday, Carson City and Douglas County air quality is now in the "Very Unhealthy" category, according to the Air Quality Index, triggering a health alert meaning everyone may experience more serious health effects. Carson City's index reading was 222 and Gardnerville, 272.

Smoke from regional fires has caused the air quality in the Gardnerville area of Douglas County to reach the "hazardous" stage Monday morning, with an Air Quality Index reading of 410, according to AirNow.gov, while Carson City has reached the "unhealthy" stage.
