Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. As most of us in Nevada are starting out our second week of being socially distant and staying at home for Nevada, some of us may be starting to feel the mental effects of being isolated. We may feel lonely, tired of our isolation mates (no matter how much we love our families), and/or craving the social connection that comes from going to our jobs and offices as we work from home and remotely or not working due to being classified as non essential.

CARSON CITY — To support the Governor’s directive to “Stay Home for Nevada” the Department of Health and Human Services has consolidated a list of Department services available to support our citizens.

Partnership Carson City is going virtual with its yoga series in an effort to continue to provide a needed respite with the ongoing limitations as a result of the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

Gov. Steve Sisolak has ordered — not asked — all nonessential businesses in the state to shut down and cease operations at midnight Friday as part of a monthlong closure to avoid further spread of the novel coronavirus.

But what exactly is an “essential” or “nonessential” business?

A 24-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 500 block of N Street Thursday morning for two felony child abuse offenses, and two gross misdemeanor offenses for child neglect / endangerment.

According to the report, Jenna Noelle Hix was arrested following a report of two young children screaming for their mother just before 2 a.m. The reporting party stated they were unsure if the mother of the children was home.

PK O’Neill filed late Friday afternoon with the Secretary of State’s Office as a Republican candidate for State Assembly District 40. The District includes all of Carson City, the east side of Washoe Valley and parts of southeast Washoe County.

The Nevada Northern Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board elected Taylor Allison, executive director of Partnership Douglas County, as their new chair on Feb. 26.

A 33-year-old Carson City man suffering a mental health episode was arrested in the area of N Carson Street and W. Winnie Street for repeatedly calling 911.

According to the report, the man was arrested after he called 911 stating that his PTSD medication was out and that he wanted to go to Mallory, but he did not want to kill himself.

The Carson City School District will host two showings of a 60-minute documentary titled "Screenagers Next Chapter — Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience" Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Bob Boldrick Theatre in the Carson City Community Center. The two showings, beginning at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m., will be free and open to the public. Parents are encouraged to bring their children.

After driving public transport for half a decade, Tawny Barker knew she wanted some peace and quiet, and decided instead to apply to drive transport for a mortuary.

A 41-year-old man was arrested Jan. 19 in the 800 block of Sharrow Way for suspicion of burglary, a Carson City sheriff's report said.

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff's Office responded and its SWAT was called Tuesday morning to a Morgan Mill residence after a man began shooting inside a home where his 73-year-old grandmother was hiding. The suspect is now in custody.

The female who was hiding is safe and was not injured in the incident, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

— An 18-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the area of 5th and Carson Street for probation violation after driving an unregistered vehicle at 10 mph in a 25 mph zone.

According to the report, deputies were patrolling in the area of 5th and Stewart when they began following an unregistered vehicle traveling at a slow rate of speed, clocking in at 10 mph in a 25 mph zone.

The vehicle then turned into the Nevada Legislature service ramp area and a male and female exited the vehicle and walked away.

A 63-year-old caretaker was arrested Monday for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, preventing or dissuading a person to report a crime and battery, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.
