Senator Square: Mural contest winner paints 'Road to Success'

All entries were judged and the 1st place winner was Athena Favero, who received a $200 Amazon Gift Card. Second place and a $100 Amazon Gift Card went to Michael Rose. As part of the contest, Athena painted her winning design "A Senator’s Road To Success” on the hallway wall outside the GNCU branch at CHS. Students and staff are encouraged to come by and see her winning mural at Carson High School. Congratulations to our winners, and thanks to all the students who entered.

On this day in 1982, a ground-breaking ceremony was held in Washington D.C. for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Carson City has a Vietnam Veterans Memorial of its own located in Mills Park. The memorial will be the site of a Welcome Home Celebration this Saturday for Vietnam Veterans Day.

The office will be encouraging comnunity members to stop by and lend a helping hand to those in need by bringing in non-perishable food items to the office.

Lockdown lifted at Fritsch Elementary; threat to school made after most students had left
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 03/25/2015 - 4:13pmUPDATE 9:10PM: From the Carson City Sheriff's Office: Wednesday's lockdown of Fritsch Elementary School was a result of a threatening phone message received by staff at the school. Although there were no classes in session at the time, many latchkey students and faculty were on the school grounds. The students and staff on the campus were placed in a procedural in-place lockdown while Deputy Sheriff's performed a room by room search to insure the safety of everyone.
Our appreciation to all of the parents and family members who patiently awaited outside the school while the staff and officers completed the search.

What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green. Carson City definitely gets in on the game with festivities all over town. Corned beef and cabbage, green beer, and live music abound. Classic Guitarist George Sakellariou concert April 2 to benefit WNC

During a rare Northern Nevada appearance last year, Sakellariou presented a variety of new and old pieces, leading to an April 2 return engagement presented by Western Nevada College’s Wildcat Productions at the Brewery Arts Center.
Proceeds from the 7 p.m. concert will assist in creating a new scholarship for Wildcat Productions. Sakellariou, 70, has said that a key to entertaining for so long is to remain inspired.

Entering into his 10th hour of nonstop speaking, Ian Hill said he was feeling fine. “It’s amazing that after nine-and-a-half hours, I still have all this energy,” he said.
The business leader and international motivational speaker began talking 6 a.m. Thursday at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City and will continue through Saturday morning in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for longest public speaking event.
