Nevada Humane Society’s Bone Appetit program is combining great local restaurants with a great cause — offering dining out as a way to give back to homeless pets. On Thursday, May 26, Café at Adele’s is raising money and awareness for Nevada Humane Society and you can dine with them to participate!

If you want to dine out and help homeless pets, it’s simple — when you visit Café at Adele’s on Thursday, May 26, just tell your server that you're there to support Nevada Humane Society and a portion of your food bill will be donated back to homeless pets!

As we are starting another year of Empty Bowls in Carson City, we wanted to take a minute and ask for help ... early on.
We are currently collecting bisquited, unglazed and undecorated handmade bowls. We are also seeking cone 6 white clay, kiln firings and other materials.

The lights are on: downtown Carson City is ready for the holidays

Hot chocolate, Santa, soup, and song made the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival a success. The annual event co-sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce and the Redevelopment Committee brought young and old downtown to watch the Capitol light up.

A Christmas Fair in Telegraph Square featured entertainment by the Carson Middle School Band, the Carson High Chamber Choir, and the Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers. Craft booths for the kids, vendors, and a roaming Grinch were all a part of the action. Santa’s appearance was the icing on the cake.

Third Annual Empty Bowls Carson City Event to help raise hunger awareness

The third annual Empty Bowls Carson City event to help raise hunger awareness, will be Friday, Dec. 4 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is part of the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights and takes place inside the First Presbyterian Church, 306 W. Musser St., the site of the second tree lighting event of the evening.

There will be a raffle for dozens of locally made art pieces and other merchandise, generously donated to the cause. Demonstrations on a potter's wheel will also be occurring to show you how bowls are made.

Empty Bowls Carson City gives everyone the chance to choose a bowl made by local artists and fellow citizens for a minimum $12 donation that includes comes all you can eat soup generously donated by many local restaurants.

Pie to the Rescue pies available to order at Carson High School Craft Fair

Northern Nevada Dream Center has teamed up with Carson High School's Culinary Arts program to help feed families. You can support the Culinary Arts team by letting them bake your Thanksgiving pies. You can order them Friday and Saturday at the Carson High School Craft Fair.

Rotary Club of Carson City gears up for April's Beer and Pizza Championships

Now considered a Carson City spring tradition, the Rotary Club of Carson City will play host to its fourth annual Carson City Beer and Pizza Championships at the Carson Mall on Saturday, April 25.

The community is welcomed to taste, judge and enjoy finely crafter beer brewed from around the region and piping hot fresh pizza tossed and baked from local restaurants. Sixteen respected craft beer brewers and microbreweries will offer their top selections to attendees as they compete for awards during the Championships.

Christmas season kicks off Dec. 5 with Carson City hometown celebration

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights will officially kick off Friday evening, Dec. 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the steps of the State Capitol in Carson City.

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber announces 2014 Blue Ribbon Award winners

Thursday night’s 7th Annual Blue Ribbon Awards was the largest yet with over 300 guests in attendance as individuals and businesses were recognized for their exemplary services, products and programs in the South Shore community. Produced by the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce, also known as TahoeChamber, this prestigious awards program solicited nominations for six categories and eight total awards.

Over 175 nominations were received and 95 of those nominated joined their peers at the Nov. 13 awards ceremony at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.

Bently Biofuels sells to Oregon company

Douglas County-based Bently Biofuels has sold to an Oregon-based company, in a deal announced Tuesday. SeQuential Pacific Biodiesel, which serves Oregon and Washington, closed on the deal with Bently Biofuels on Friday.

Biodiesel refers to a vegetable oil or animal fat-based diesel fuel meant to be used in standard diesel engines. The Bently Biofuels plant was constructed in 2005 to convert used cooking oil from local restaurants into biodiesel. Capacity for the plant was initially 400,000 gallons produced per year.

Plans for Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music Festival underway

Get ready for an exciting summer of music when the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival takes place, August 1-17. The festival, which began in 2004, is presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc.

Last year, the Jazz and Beyond Festival featured 60 performances and over 100 performers, and organizers hope to match that accomplishment this year. Most performances are presented free to the public. Beyond jazz, the festival included bluegrass, blues, mariachi, and more.

December's Empty Bowls Project in Carson City raises more than $2,700 for FISH

The Empty Bowls project, a locally organized fundraiser that culminated at the Carson City Silver and Snowflake Festival on Dec. 6 and was initiated to bring awareness of local hunger issues, raised $2,722.35 for Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, which feeds, houses and provides services for more than 20,000 people in Carson City annually.

Hundreds donate to Carson City Empty Bowls hunger awareness fundraiser during Silver and Snowflakes holiday festival

A grassroots project to raise money and bring awareness of ongoing hunger issues in the Carson City area — The Empty Bowls Project — was the bright diamond among the many shining stars featured at Friday night's downtown Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights celebration.

More than 600 handcrafted artisan bowls made by dozen of local potters were featured for this inaugural event, led by Robin McGregor, owner of Carson City Pottery. Festival-goers paid $10 for each bowl, which were filled with steaming hot varieties of soup donated by local restaurants.

Carson City Author Featured at Fall Festival and Chili Cook Off

Sample the Sierra festivities at South Lake Tahoe planned for Labor Day weekend

Spend Labor Day Weekend in South Lake Tahoe sampling the best food, wine, and art in the Sierra Nevada Region. The 3rd annual Sample the Sierra farm-to-fork festival will take place on Sunday, Sept. 2 on Ski Run Boulevard.
This year, 15 local restaurants and farmers will be paired together to produce mouthwatering samples for festival-goers to enjoy. Each food sample will be paired with an accompanying wine, also local to the region.

UNR researcher supports Lake Tahoe harvest of invasive crayfish numbered at 220 million

The University of Nevada, Reno’s Sudeep Chandra, a leading Lake Tahoe scientist who has studied invasive species and limnology at the lake for 20 years, said issuing permits for commercial harvesting of crayfish at Lake Tahoe will help improve clarity at the pristine lake, as well as take away a food source for other invasive species that threaten lake clarity and ecosystems.
