Hear about lingering spirits of the past, haunted and paranormal stories. This is a spirit lead, guided walking tour of the downtown district’s historic homes. This is a 90-minute guided walking tour leaves rain or shine. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the walk begins.

Carson City man jailed after breaking down door with ax, swinging it at woman

A Carson City man was arrested Sunday and faces a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly breaking down a door with an ax and threatening a woman.

Reymundo Antonio Robles, 39, was arrested in the 800 block of Musser Street. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched at 10:03 p.m. in reference to a possible domestic battery. The reporting party stated Robles was breaking down the door with an ax.

Former Carson City man known as 'Fedora Bandit' admits to string of bank robberies

The 'Fedora Bandit' who robbed banks in Carson City and South Lake Tahoe among several others, pled guilty Friday to three counts of armed bank robbery, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

David Griffith Osborne, 74, formerly of Carson City, made pleas to three counts of armed bank robbery, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner said. Osborne admitted he had robbed Bank of the West on 2976 North Carson Street, in Carson City. He also admitted to the Feb. 18, 2010 robbery at the Bank of the West, 2160 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe and the March 9, 2010 robbery at Bank of the West in Kings Beach and a March 31, 2010 robbery in Grass Valley.

Wagnon, a 40-year veteran of the snowsports industry, is senior director of brand marketing for Vail Resorts, Inc at Heavenly Mountain Resort south shore Lake Tahoe and Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

He has served on the on the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, Ski Lake Tahoe and the California Travel Industry Association boards. Wagnon is also a trustee and past chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board.

Carson City students to apply research and robotics during LEGO League challenge

Teams of school children from Carson City with a knack for building and design will join students throughout Northern Nevada in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) challenge, Saturday, Dec. 8 at Sparks High School.

Former Carson City doctor released from jail pending Arkansas murder trial

CONWAY, ARK. — A former Carson City emergency room doctor charged in a double murder will be allowed to leave jail — and the state — pending his trial in Arkansas after a judge agreed Friday that prosecutors failed to quickly take the case to trial.
Richard Conte, 62, will have to wear an electronic monitor and remain under house arrest at his mother’s home in Wisconsin, according to a ruling from Judge Charles E. Clawson Jr.

Calling all Heroes: Nevada Youth Invited to 'Step Into Service' to Fight Childhood Obesity

UnitedHealthcare and YSA are inviting schools and other community-based nonprofit organizations in Nevada to “Step into Service” by applying for UnitedHealth HEROES grants.

UnitedHealth HEROES is a wellness initiative designed to encourage young people, working with educators and youth leaders, to create and implement walking, running or hiking programs aimed at helping fight childhood obesity.

Carson City authorities arrest suspects on weapons, fraud and battery charges

A 71-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail on Sept. 24 on a warrant stemming from two charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Francis John Belongia, was arrested in the 4000 block of Stampede Drive without incident. Bail was set at $20,000.
In other felony-related arrests:
— A Dayton woman faces a felony charge of fraudulent use of a credit card or debit card without consent. Cynthia Marie Shelley, 31, was arrested Sept. 26. in the 1900 block of North Carson Street. She was arrested following a felony warrant issued by the Carson City Justice Court. Bail was set at $7,500.

Gold worth millions found in Carson City man's house after he died

CARSON CITY — Walter Samasko Jr., a recluse, died at home in May, but his body wasn’t discovered until June, when neighbors complained of the smell coming from his house. There was only $200 in his bank account. But there was a $7 million surprise at home.
As the house was being cleaned for sale, officials discovered gold bars and gold coins stored in boxes in the garage and in the house. There were so many coins that Carson City Clerk Alan Glover used a wheelbarrow to haul the gold to his truck and deposit it for safekeeping.

Crime Log: Three men arrested in Carson City for methamphetamine allegations

Carson City Sheriff's deputies have arrested the following individuals based on felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

  • Terris Lee French III, 35, a Carson City man, at 10:30 p.m. Friday. French was arrested for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and violation of Parole and Probation restrictions. No bail has been set.
  • Jose Garcia-Gaona, 35, a Carson City man, at 1 p.m. Saturday. Garcia-Gaona was arrested for an unspecified felony warrant as well as trafficking of methamphetamines (588 grams). Bail is set at $252,500.
