Wanted sex offender nabbed by Carson City officers after chase through streets, neighborhoods

A 48-year-old transient wanted by authorities after violating conditions of parole as a sex offender was stopped Wednesday on a traffic violation and took off running from Carson City deputies resulting in a search through neighborhoods, businesses and an RV park.

Robert Lee Lyons Jr. was arrested at 7:13 p.m. in the 2400 block of Michael Drive. He faces a felony charge of violation of parole as a sex offender, and six misdemeanor charges, including obstructing police officers.

January auditions announced for Wild Horse Children's Theater's production of 'Mulan, Jr.'

Wild Horse Children’s Theater is looking for actors, singers and dancers, ages 5-16 to audition for Disney’s “Mulan, Jr.” Auditions will be held Thursday, January 9 from 4-7 pm and Saturday, January 11 from 1-4 pm at the Performance Hall of the Brewery Arts Center , 511 W. King Street in Carson City. Auditions are by appointment only. You must call for an audition slot.

Carson City motel manager jailed after allegedly threatening tenant, beating his girlfriend

A 50-year-old Carson City motel manager faces a felony charge of intimidating a witness. Britt Andrew Taylor was arrested early Friday morning in the 1500 block of Rand Avenue.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were called to a motel on Rand Avenue regarding a domestic battery. On the scene officers made contact with a female victim who was outside, on the ground, unconscious in front of the manager's apartment as well as a female witness who was there trying to stop the woman's head from bleeding by applying pressure on it.

Trio allegedly squatting in campers on private property face drug-related charges

A 25-year-old Carson City was arrested Nov. 24, 11:01 p.m. He faces felony warrant charges of domestic battery and failure to appear out of Del Norte Superior Court in California. Daniel Glenn is being held on $35,000. He was stopped doing 50 in a 35 mph zone while traveling northbound on Lompa Lane.

In other felony arrests:
A 49-year-old Carson City man faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and three misdemeanor charges. James Henry Minor Jr. was arrested Nov. 22, 5:38 p.m. in the 1500 block of Airport Road.

Boy Scouts of America opens new Northern Nevada headquarters

The Boy Scouts of America Nevada Area Council has now opened the doors to its new headquarters located on 500 Double Eagle Court in Reno. The Nevada Area Council is geographically the second largest Scouting council in the United States, serving 23 counties throughout northeastern California, and northern Nevada.

Carson High Senior is a Racing Champion

If you were to encounter a pretty, petite blonde named Samantha Schultz in the hallways of Carson High, your first thought might be “cheerleader.” You certainly wouldn’t think “racecar driver,” but Schultz just became the first female track champion in the Strictly Stock division at Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville. The ironic thing is that at 17 she doesn’t have her driver’s license yet, and is driving on a learner’s permit.

Carson City’s rich and intriguing history is explored and theatrically relived in our seasonal Ghost Walking Tours. The Carson City Ghost Walk is a delightfully spooky and enjoyable way to experience Carson City’s Victorian Era and diverse past.

Hear about lingering spirits of the past, haunted and paranormal stories. This is a spirit lead, guided walking tour of the downtown district’s historic homes. This is a 90-minute guided walking tour leaves rain or shine. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the walk begins. The next walk is Sept. 21, 6:30 p.m.

In the late summer of 1963 Susan and I were finishing our three-month Peace Corps training program at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. We had survived the mid-term "deselection process" (a Peace Corps term for the trainees who didn't make it--close to 50% of the students). We had endured weeks of intensive Turkish language instruction and instruction in TEFL (teaching English as a Foreign Language from some of the country's foremost experts. In addition to studying Turkish politics and culture, we wilted under the physical education requirements at 5:00 in the afternoon during a D.C.

Members of a national earthquake simulation research network are at the University of Nevada, Reno today and tomorrow for Quake Summit 2013, an annual scientific meeting highlighting engineering research that reduces the impact of devastating earthquakes and tsunamis.
