Douglas County Hosts Flood Awareness Event both as In Person and Virtual Option

Douglas County and the State of Nevada is hosting an in person educational event to inform citizens on flood preparation on November 17, 2020 from 3-4:30pm in the Ranch View Room of the Douglas County Community and Senior Center.

Douglas County creates 'Frequently Asked Questions' in regards to proposed Painted Rock Mine

At their September 3rd and 17th meetings, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners discussed the proposed Painted Rock Mine, located on tribal trust land administered by the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) in Douglas County.

The Painted Rock Mine is a proposed commercial gravel pit operation east of the Johnson Lane Community.

Lightning strikes cause multiple fire starts in Douglas County

UPDATE 5:30PM: A brush unit from Carson City Fire Department, called for a mutual assist in Douglas County, has been called back to quarters as East Fork Fire Protection District indicates it may have a handle on the lightning sparked wildfires earlier. Volunteer fire engines in the East Fork Fire Protection District were also released. East Fork and BLM brush units remain in fire start areas.

Carson City Car chase suspect in custody in Douglas County

On May 1, 2020 at 11:45 am Carson City Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) located a stolen red Audi 2 door motor vehicle stolen out of California, in Carson City, Nevada.

CCSO attempted to stop the Audi but the driver failed to stop his motor vehicle. CCSO chased the Audi into Douglas County, Nevada and requested assistance from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO).

Breaking: Car chase occurring now between Carson City and Douglas County

A car chase involving a stolen vehicle began just before 12 p.m. Friday afternoon on Carson Street.

The driver of the stolen vehicle led deputies on a pursuit going up to speeds of 80 mph heading south on Carson Street into Douglas County.

Spooner Junction was closed at 11:50.

At 11:54 deputies reported a hand was waving outside of the sunroof, appearing to show something deputies could not identify.

At 11:55 the chase was approaching Mica Drive.

At 11:57 the chase passed Stephanie Lane.

At 11:58 the vehicle turned East on Johnson Lane.

NHP identifies Dayton woman in fatal crash Friday on Highway 395 near Johnson Lane

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a 70-year-old Dayton woman who died in a vehicle crash that happened Friday on Highway 395 south of Johnson Lane in Douglas County.

Nevada Highway Patrol investigates fatal rollover incident near Johnson Lane Friday night

According to NHP Northern Command, a fatal rollover occurred just before 10 p.m. Friday night, resulting in at least one confirmed fatality.

The fatal crash occurred in the Northbound lanes of 395 at Johnson Lane in Carson City, which was shut down for the investigation. Two vehicles were involved in the accident, which included a rollover and ejection.

One person was confirmed deceased at the scene. NHP believes impairment was a factor.

The deceased's name has not been released at this time.

Emergency crews from Douglas, Carson City respond to crash on US 395 and Stephanie Way

UPDATE 6:58PM: NHP responded to two separate vehicle accidents in the area of Highway 395 and Stephanie Way in Douglas County early Thursday evening. No serious injuries were reported in the crashes. Northbound traffic flow has resumed.

Two small earthquakes were reported Monday morning 6.7 miles southeast of Carson City north of Johnson Lane, according to the Nevada Seimsological Laboratory.

The local group is known as the Great Basin Gourd Patch meet monthly in the Johnson Lane area to share and learn techniques used on gourds. Brush fire breaks out in Johnson Lane area; Carson City responds to backyard fire

UPDATE 10:37PM: Forward progress of the fire off of Stephanie Way has been stopped, according to a battalion chief on scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

East Fork Fire and Tahoe Douglas firefighters were called Thursday evening to a brush fire burning in the Johnson Lane area near Stephanie Way in Carson Valley. Also, there was a report of a backyard fire on Brown Street in Carson City.

MINDEN — A precautionary boil water notice has been issued for the East Valley Water System in the Skyline Service Area.

Power outages in Carson City, high winds close Washoe Valley to all vehicles over 9 feet

Multiple power outages are being reported early Monday afternoon around Carson City and Douglas County due to a weather system that prompted a High Wind Warning earlier this morning for much of the region. Meanwhile, wind gusts flipped two vehicles on I-580 north of Carson City in Washoe Valley late Monday morning causing some traffic delays.

NHP: One northbound I-580 lane opened near Bowers Mansion after fatal Galena Bridge crash

UPDATE 8:40PM: The Nevada Highway Patrol reports one lane of northbound I-580 is now open north of the Bowers Mansion exit. Traffic is moving slowly past the scene of the fatal crash. NHP urges motorists to watch for first responders and drive with extreme caution.

UPDATE 8:06PM: Nevada Highway Patrol troopers remain on scene Thursday night at the fatal crash on the Galena Bridge. There are approximately 10-15 vehicles involved with one confirmed fatality. There is not an estimated time for reopening northbound I-580. NHP advises motorists to use alternate routes.

MINDEN — Douglas County is urging residents to prepare for the possibility of flooding and high winds. A storm is coming Wednesday and Thursday which could potentially cause flooding for snow-clogged drainage areas, poor drainage areas, and small streams below 6000 feet, however no rivers have been predicted to flood at this time.

NNDA announces latest Nevada Certified Sites in Fernley, Carson Valley

Today we honor those who have not only served, but who gave all in defense of our country. A tribute ceremony at Lone Mountain Cemetery for our Nevadan veterans will begin at 1 p.m. A memorial for our Native American veterans begins at 10 a.m. at the cemetery across the street from the Stewart Indian School. The 10th annual barbecue at Evergreen Gene’s welcomes all comers, and veterans will get 25 percent any of the fun things they find in the shop. Read on below for more happenings today.
