Carson City man held for false imprisonment, other charges following apartment incident

A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Monday and faces multiple charges including gross misdemeanor false imprisonment after an incident at a Peter's Street apartment, a sheriff's deputy reported. A woman also faces a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer.

Senate Bill 389, relating to the ability to keep bees in residential zones in Nevada, which has been hotly debated since it was announced on March 20, was read during a Natural Resources Committee meeting Wednesday.

Residents attended to an extent that legislative staff needed to open an overflow room to provide for those gathered, in which the meeting was televised from down the hall.

Deputies arrest man for securing a door with a dog leash, driving into stranger's yard

A 25-year-old man was arrested by Special Enforcement Team deputies in the 1700 block of Stewart Street Thursday evening for DUI drugs, failure to maintain a lane, driving without a driver’s license in possession, driving without a front plate, and driving with an unsecured load.

SET deputies observed a vehicle exiting a parking lot on Winnie Lane and observed it was driving without a front license plate. They also observed there was a full rear lift gate for a Ford Explorer on the roof the car, strapped on top of the roof with a thin dog-leash, which was insufficient to hold the weight of the door.

World Hearing Day is March 3 every year, held to help raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world.

In recognition of the day, Carson Valley Medical Center is offering free hearing evaluations Friday, March 1 and Friday, March 8 through its Occupational Health Clinic in Minden at 897 Ironwood Drive.

Approximately 20 percent of Americans, or 48 million, report some degree of hearing loss. At age 65, the numbers grow to 33 percent. Additionally, nearly 15 percent of school-age children have some degree of hearing loss.

CARSON CITY — Senate Bill 13 now under consideration by Nevada lawmakers aims to authorize county commissioners to form a nonprofit corporation to “aid the county in providing certain governmental services.”

If the bill is adopted, changes to Chapter 244 of the Nevada Revised Statues would be amended to include several new sections regarding a county’s ability to form a nonprofit corporation.

Court Date Set for March for Accused Murderer Martinez-Guzman

Reno Justice Court held an arraignment for accused murderer Wilber Martinez-Guzman on Monday. He was appointed a public defender, John Arrascada, and they waived the 15-day rule for a preliminary hearing.

Douglas, Washoe County murder suspect postpones Carson City charges, agrees to Reno transfer

On Friday, Feb. 8, 19-year-old Wilber Ernesto Martinez-Guzman appeared in Carson City Justice Court before Judge Tom Armstrong for his arraignment hearing.

Prosecution prepared a stipulation to transfer Martinez-Guzman to Washoe County to face the more pressing charges of murder. Martinez-Guzman and his attorney agreed.

Martinez-Guzman waived the right to a preliminary hearing within 15 days in order to be transferred to Washoe County.

A pre-trial conference date in Carson City has been set for July 10 for a status check. Martinez-Guzman will not be required to be in attendance for it.

Wilber Martinez-Guzman, the Carson City man suspected of murdering four people in Reno and Gardnerville, is set for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Carson City Justice court to face 36 counts of felony weapons charges, burglary charges, possession of stolen items and immigration charges. He also faces murder charges in Washoe County, but a court hearing has not been set yet.
