Thursday Hike to Clear Creek Connector Trail and Clear Creek (partial) hosted by Muscle Powered

Join us on our free leader-led hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet at the Highway 50 Park and Ride where we will carpool or caravan to the starting point off of Golf Course Road. Water and sturdy closed-toe shoes required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended.

Bring a friend and/or friendly dogs. All hikes are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more.

Obituary: Pioneering V&T Railroad steam train touring stalwart Robert C. Gray dies

Robert C. Gray, 97, of Orinda, California passed away peacefully at home April 3, 2019. Robert was born in Oakland, California to Harry E. Gray and Kathleen S. Carter on August 13, 1921.

Robert was kind, energetic and lived a full life. He was an advanced stamp collector and in 1935 he attended the first Boy Scout National Jamboree at Washington D.C.

Dan Wilson the Medalist at Silver Oak

Dan Wilson carded the medalist honors with a gross 73 at the second Sunday Men’s Club outing March 24 at Silver Oak golf course. Money winners were Wilson and Frank Maricich with low net (after handicap is applied) 66s in the first flight, followed by Wes Camp and Brian Sweet tied for third place with 68.

Carson City HOSA students compete in state competition, take home 6 chapter awards

CARSON CITY — A total of 93 Career and Technical Education (CTE) and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students competed in the Nevada State Leadership Conference held at the Rio in Las Vegas March 18-20.

There were a total of 74 students from Carson High School (CHS), 6 from Pioneer High School (PHS) and 13 from Carson Middle School (CMS). More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

Retirement community for active adults 55 and better is coming to Reno in 2020

Carson City-based Mission Senior Living celebrated the groundbreaking of Mountain Lakes Estates Retirement Community, located off of South Meadows Parkway, just past Sprouts, in Reno. The 19th annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski and Snowshoe Celebration returns once again to the Sierra on Saturday, March 2 at 9:30 a.m. at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe.

Event activities begin with a guided tour over the snow starting at 9:30 a.m. with Norwegian native and longboard ski expert Nina MacLeod, who will also give a longboard ski demonstration. Attendees may bring their own snowshoes and cross country skis, or rent snowshoes from the Lake Tahoe Golf Course.
