It's Your City: Capital City Farm Days to teach youth about agriculture in Nevada

Well, the expected rain didn’t show up overnight, but that doesn’t mean it’s not on its way. The brand-new Friday morning walk with Muscle Powered is weather permitting and will meet at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center instead of Fuji Park if it’s wet out. You’ll notice a sea of blue downtown after noon as the annual pinwheel planting for Child Abuse Awareness takes place; the community is welcomed to lend a hand. It’s aviation night at the Children’s Museum with paper airplanes and pilots on the agenda.

Time for fun on Tuesday: trivia nights, trail hikes, and more

A very happy Tuesday to you. The Classic Cinema Club is changing it up a little tonight. Their showing of ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ is going to begin an hour earlier than usual, due to its length. Don’t worry, though, the trivia portion will take place during intermission, instead of before the film. The Carson Valley Trails Association is hosting their annual meeting and social in the Douglas County Community Center. If you’re curious about exploring the hills south of Carson, this is the perfect place to learn more.

Do you ever wonder about that old stone house at the eastern entrance to Mills Park? Called the Wungnema House it has interesting history. Take a tour today during the monthly open house, and learn more about the early residents of Carson City. As a child of the 80s, I’m excited about this week’s Flashback Cinema feature at Galaxy Theaters. "The Dark Chrystal" was a favorite of mine. I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: March 24 - 25

The weekend has arrived, and it will be an exceptionally long one for the schoolkids of Carson City: spring break begins Monday. There’s a rumor of snowfall for this weekend, but it’s not expected to be too heavy in the valley. Don’t quote me on that, though, I’ve been wrong before. Break a leg to the Douglas students performing in ‘Game of Tiaras’ this weekend; the show sounds hilarious, but be warned, it’s not for kids. For a family friendly outing, check out Story Time with Suzie at the Nevada Railroad Museum, or photos with the Easter Bunny at PetSmart.

Parks and pathways closed: Carson City sees nearly 2 inches of rain since Wednesday

Carson City Public Works, Parks and Recreation personnel and emergency managers have been working on flood prone areas throughout Thursday and will continue to do so until the storm is over, officials said this afternoon.

Baily Pond to reopen, water determined safe after iron bacteria identified at Fuji Park fish pond

Recently Baily Pond at Fuji Park in south Carson City was temporarily closed due to what appeared to be a natural occurring event, often found in marsh and wetland environments, was observed and reported in the water on Jan. 29.

Bacteria forces temporary closure of Carson City pond at Fuji Park

An iron-based naturally occurring bacteria was discovered Monday in Baily Pond at Fuji Park, forcing Carson City Parks and Rec officials to temporarily close the popular south Carson City fishing spot.

Carson City/Storey County 4-H Fabric Sale and Donation Days this weekend

The popular 4-H Fabric and Rummage sale returns to Carson City’s Fuji Park Exhibit Hall at 701 Old Clear Creek Road this weekend, Feb. 3-4.

On Saturday, Feb. 3, the sale is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visit the sale days for great bargains; most fabric starts at a dollar per yard. Residents still have opportunities to donate unwanted, clean rummage items and fabric to 4-H.

Carson City volunteers make bold move, now provide nightly warming shelter for homeless

With cold weather having settled into the region, five churches in Carson City have partnered this season to operate nightly winter warming shelters for the area's homeless. These volunteer-staffed shelters will rotate monthly, each providing a warm place to sleep for the homeless and their pets.
