Sharon Alexander was born May 17, 1940 to Elmer and Carol Brearty in Oakland, California. Sharon graduated from Fremont High School in 1958.

If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. Just a few days left, and the school year will over. Scope out one of Carson City’s neighborhood parks during today’s Easy Walk or participate in something a little more strenuous as Muscle Powered tackles Prison Hill, off Snyder. Kids are encouraged to wear their comfy clothes and bring a favorite stuffed animal during the Carson Library’s weekly Pajama Story Time. The Deputy Howell Memorial Music Festival is quickly approaching, so all volunteers will need to attend tonight’s planning meeting at Harley Davidson.

TUESDAY:

It’s the perfect time to enjoy family and friends and some great music. The Carson Nugget powers it up to rock out tonight with Volt: A Tribute to AC/DC in their ballroom. Dayton Valley Golf Course offers up dinner and a show with this year’s debut of Concerts on the Green. Blues Monster and pulled pork sliders are a great way to enjoy the evening.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. – Fort Churchill State Historic Park is offering a variety of ranger-led programs during the month of June. Programs highlight the area’s rich history and abundant natural resources.

Easy Walk Program: Walks of 1 to 2 miles in length with none or negligible elevation gain, and frequently paved or smooth paths. The walks will usually be of approximately one hour in duration. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.

CARSON CITY — Tedra “Teddy” Cook, 7th grade teacher at Carson Middle School, was honored last night as the Carson City School District’s Educator of the Year. Additionally, Bridget Gordon, 21st Century Solutions Program coordinator at Carson High School, was recognized as the Classified Employee of the Year for the district.

Holy moly, it’s going to be a busy weekend: busy and gorgeous out. A bowling tournament and the Comstock Shootout Soccer tournament have the hotels and motels busting at the seams. I’m hoping that April brings more than just showers. Not that I don’t love the spring flowers, but I’m really ready for some sunshine. The Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers want to ‘Give Our Regards to Broadway’ during their one weekend only production. There’s too much to mention in this short opening paragraph, so keep reading for all the great things our valley and sister valleys have to offer.

The Carson City School District has named two new principals for the 2017-2018 school year: Mrs. Lisa Hutchison as the new principal of Bordewich Bray Elementary School and Dr. Jennifer Ward-DeJoseph as the new principal of Fremont Elementary School. Each will be replacing Mrs. Karen Simms and Mrs. Casey Gilles respectively. Both Simms and Gilles will be retiring in June.
