Celebrate your Valentine with 'The Devil Made Me Do It' Virginia City getaway

Virginia City is offering lovers a chance to celebrate a special Valentine’s Day getaway without going too far from home. "The Devil Made Me Do It" takes place Saturday, Feb. 13 in Virginia City, Nev., and includes options for couples or small groups of friends to enjoy a historically quaint Valentine’s weekend in the mountain mining town.

Juan’s Mexican Grill to open Monday in Downtown Carson City

Carson City’s newest Mexican eatery will be officially opening this Monday, Jan. 18 in its new downtown home.

Owners Juan and Maria Salazar have been running the first location of Juan’s Mexican Grill for years inside the Comstock Casino and this new location, which took over the venue left vacant by Battle Born Social, will be their second.

This is not their first time serving up Mexican cuisine in the downtown area. Juan’s used to operate both inside the old Mo and Sluggo’s (now the Pourhouse) as well as the Horseshoe Club (now closed).

Virginia City to honor veterans Wednesday with Veterans Day Cruise

Historic Virginia City has always placed a strong emphasis on supporting those who have served our country. A walk down the wooden board sidewalks demonstrates this in the many memorial flags of those who gave their lives in service. Because honoring our veterans is so important, Virginia City will be holding a Veterans Day Cruise this Wednesday, Nov. 11 beginning at 11 a.m. on C Street.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The Nevada Day Golf Tournament in remembrance of Mayor Bob Crowell will be held at Silver Oak Ranch Golf Course on Saturday. Dozens of fundraisers, including the Benson’s Feed 4 Paws 4-H group, will be scattered throughout the Carson City and Gardnerville areas. Local eatery Juan's Mexican Grill to open second location in downtown Carson City

Juan Salazar first moved to Carson City 16 years ago to be closer to his parents who were, at the time, operating an eatery within Mo and Sluggo's.

Since then, the family has been serving up dishes throughout Carson City, first at Mo and Sluggo's (now Westside Pour House), then at the Horseshoe Club (now closed), and finally at the Comstock Casino, where they remain as Juan's Mexican Grill.

A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday in the 1300 block of North Edmonds for felony suspicion of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, and misdemeanor possession of a firearm while under the influence.
