National Public Lands Day at Grimes Point!

National Public Lands Day

The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District, will host a National Public Lands Day (NPLD) event on Saturday, September 28, 2019. At this event volunteers will participate in a cleanup at the Grimes Point Archaeological Area approximately 10 east of Fallon, Nevada. Lunch will be provided.

Lake Tahoe beach cleanup Friday net 1,875 pounds of trash, 5,458 cigarette butts

More than 300 volunteers stepped up to clean up Lake Tahoe beaches the day after the July 4 celebration, collecting more than 1,875 pounds of litter that would have otherwise harmed the lake's fragile ecosystem.

250 cigarette butt collection canisters to be installed at Lake Tahoe

The League to Save Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Waters Supplies Association (TWSA) are in the process of distributing an initial run of 250 cigarette butt collection canisters at key locations around Lake Tahoe. The aim of the Tahoe Cigarette Disposal Program is to reduce toxic chemicals from littered cigarette butts from leaching into the environment, to protect wildlife, and to reduce litter on Lake Tahoe’s shoreline and vicinity.

And that is the case with Cafe at Adele's following the March 28 fire that swept through but was mostly contained to the laundry room area of the iconic Carson City restaurant that sits on the corner of North Carson and John Street.

Carson City's Muscle Powered to take on portion of Carson River at next Trash Mob

Muscle Powered will host its next Trash Mob cleanup in Carson City on Saturday, April 20 at East Silver Saddle Ranch. Volunteers will set out to do cleanup along the river between Sierra Vista Lane and the Carson River.

Carson City residents offered no-cost landfill vouchers as part of spring cleanup week

Carson City Public Works announced its Spring cleanup week will offer no-cost landfill disposal vouchers to local residents.

Carson City firefighters knock down blaze at Adele's restaurant

UPDATE 7:18AM: Carson City Fire Department knocked down a fire at Cafe at Adele's early Thursday morning. The fire caused damage to a storage room located in the back of the restaurant. No one was at the restaurant at the time and there were no injuries, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The cause is under investigation.

A fire has been reported at Cafe at Adele's on North Carson Street. The fire was reported at 5:19 a.m. by a security guard working for another company who passed by the restaurant and saw smoke. Firefighters are on the scene.

The fire was in the rear of the building, and chef/owner Charlie Abowd said it appears to have started in the laundry storage area. The building was built in 1864, and the restaurant has been in the Abowd family for 41 years.

Explosion at Delta Saloon in Virginia City under investigation

UPDATE 733PM: The investigation into the explosion Tuesday morning at Virginia City's Delta Saloon remains ongoing and no cause has been determined as of this time, according to Storey County officials. The building has been secured. Union Street will be closed between C Street and B Street until Wednesday after some additional hazards have been removed. No other streets are affected at this time.

UPDATE 1:57PM: C Street in Virginia City is now open following cleanup of the area from Tuesday morning's explosion at the Delta Saloon, according to Storey County officials. The cause is under investigation. Only minor injuries were reported.

Douglas County prepares for potential flooding, high winds with approaching winter storm

MINDEN — Douglas County is urging residents to prepare for the possibility of flooding and high winds. A storm is coming Wednesday and Thursday which could potentially cause flooding for snow-clogged drainage areas, poor drainage areas, and small streams below 6000 feet, however no rivers have been predicted to flood at this time.

Lyon County prepares for possible flash flooding with upcoming storm

Lyon County is taking a proactive approach with the anticipated upcoming storm. With rain predicted in higher elevations the threat of flash flooding is a concern, said County Manager Jeff Page. Lyon County crews are establishing self fill sandbag stations at the following locations:

Rain has changed to heavy, wet snow Thursday morning along lower valley floors above Carson City, Minden, Reno and Sparks, according to the National Weather Service.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Oct. 22-28, 2018. Curry Street and side streets will reopen with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Oct. 26, 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Telegraph and Curry streets.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will host its first ever volunteer post Nevada Day Clean-Up on Oct. 28, 2018 from 8 to 10 a.m. The department will provide all of the trash bags and gloves necessary for the clean up.

Volunteers rally Labor Day to keep Tahoe’s beaches clean

Early Monday morning more than 70 Keep Tahoe Blue volunteers arrived at Commons Beach in Tahoe City to comb the sands along 6 miles of shoreline in search of items left behind by those enjoying the previous night’s festivities.
