Carson High School NJROTC raises more than $3,000 for Carson City Angel Tree Project

CARSON CITY — The Carson High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, also known as NJROTC, program raised more than $3,000 for the local Angel Tree gift program. CHS NJROTC has raised money for the charity for the past three years.

Events around Carson City for Thursday, Dec. 12

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. Along the music front, CHS Band will host its winter concert at the Carson City Community Center and our own local country music star and Nashville recording artist Art Mulcahy will be at Jimmy G's. The Orchestra Program of Carson City School District is holding its Holiday Concert Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Just the idea of a concert in Carson City is exciting enough, but it gets even better because this musical event will cost audiences absolutely nothing except a little time and effort getting there. Admission is free.

Upcoming Carson City School Board Meeting to discuss Teacher School Supply Reimbursement

The Carson City School District will hold its next School Board Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The meeting with begin with the Superintendent’s Report, which includes the Seeliger Choir Holiday Performance, Recognition of Ms. Jennifer Cherpeski for her years of service on the Family Life Committee, and general announcements.

Senator Square: Comprehensive Life Skills students make fundraising candles

Everyone has a disability of some kind, but most learn how to cope with or overcome it; however, not everyone with a disability is aware enough to recognize whether or not they even have a physical challenge. These individuals have a severe and profound physical and neurological disability, cannot care for themselves, need full-time assistance, and are some of the kindest human beings in the world, many of whom are students in the Carson City School District and at CHS. Each year, students in the CHS Comprehensive Life Skills program make crafts to sell at the annual CHS Craft Fair and give as gifts.

With the season's first big winter storm expected to arrive later Tuesday evening into Thanksgiving, you can still get in activities around the capital city before the snow flies. There's a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a job fair at the Carson Nugget, fitness and swing classes at Yaple's Ballroom, a Carson City School Board meeting and more.

The American Citizen Essay winners are in, and they all have one thing in common: cash prizes. This year, the Carson City School District Board of Trustees selected the topic, “An early motto of the United States was e pluribus unum, which means ‘out of many, one,’ so how do we embrace diversity and inclusiveness to come together as one country?”

Carson City School Board to discuss potential solution to middle school overcrowding

The Carson City School District will be holding its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 26 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.

A discussion and possible action will be on the table for proposed capital projects as supported by the facilities master plan committee, including construction of classrooms at Eagle Valley Middle School intended to alleviate student overcrowding at Carson Middle School, in an estimated amount not to exceed $8.2 million, which will be financed by the sale of the 2019B school bonds.

Carson High and Douglas High teaming up together is right up there with the appearing of Halley’s Comet. Officially designated 1P/Halley, this is a short-period comet visible from Earth every 75–76 year and is the only known short-period comet that is visible to the naked eye from Earth and the only naked-eye comet that might appear twice in a human lifetime.

Senator Square: Student reflects on Carson High School girls golf season

The 2019 season for CHS girls golf was a great experience for everyone on the team. This year, the team was comprised of five girls: Karen Beglin, Sophia Taggart, Karrina Ferris, Brooke Gudmundson, myself, and our coaches, Wade Greenlee and Jack Butler.

Carson High Holiday Craft Fair and Canned Food Drive set for Nov. 22

The Carson High Holiday Craft Fair will be held at the Carson High School Friday November 22nd from 5-8pm and Saturday November 23rd from 9-4pm. Admission on Friday is $2.00 and Saturday is $1.50 or $1.00 with a canned food item. All canned food items will be donated to Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Senator Square: Walmart awards Carson High School cheerleaders $5,000 grant

Carson High School cheerleaders cheered as they entered Walmart in Carson City and then performed two more cheers on top of that. There is an old saying found in a very old book which says, “You have not because you ask not.”

The results of the Carson High Schol HOSA Future Health Professionals career display winners are in, and the 1st Place winners are Faith Luis and Ava Ponczoch, 2nd Place are Millie Arroyo and Julia Kaiser, and 3rd Place winners are Brooklyn Robertson and Nick Batien.

Carson High School cross country runners logged 18 personal record times on Saturday at the 41st annual Asics Clovis Invitational on Oct. 4 in Fresno, Calif. This meet featured Great Oak, the top boy's team in the country, and Nico Young of Newberry Park, top boy runner in the country

Senator Square: Club opportunities everywhere at Carson High School

CHS has many opportunities for students to become a part of something bigger than just themselves, not that making a name for oneself is a bad idea or anything, but it is up to the student to step on up, come on in, and check them out. There are so many clubs on campus; there are Interact Club meetings at lunch in CHS teacher Erin Been’s room every Thursday, and Been also advises the Represent Club.

Events include the final V&T Railway train rides of the 2019 season, the 27th annual Carson City Pumpkin Patch at Seeliger Elementary School, fundraisers around town, coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum, comedy at the Carson Nugget and more!

Carson City student earns award for designing Computer Science Summit logo

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Education and the Regional Professional Development Programs presented Makayla Mueller, a junior at Carson High School, with an award for designing the logo for the 2020 Computer Science Summits.
