UPDATED: When there is heightened concern around an illness, Carson Tahoe closely monitors the situation and implements enhanced infection prevention strategies, working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local health districts, and other local healthcare providers.

The Nevada Northern Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board elected Taylor Allison, executive director of Partnership Douglas County, as their new chair on Feb. 26.

“Our board is comprised of 13 passionate individuals focusing on a common goal,” Allison said. “Together, we can move the needle and help improve the lives of patients and families in Northern Nevada.”

Heading into the middle of the work work, activities around town include a yoga class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a midweek meditation series offered at Carson City Yoga, conversational Spanish classes at Partnership Carson City, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, a presentation of "Valiant Women of The Vote" Mix and Mingle honoring the 19th Amendment at the Governor's Mansion, Ladies Night at Bella Vita Bistro, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and much more. The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association presents the third annual Northern Nevada CycleNation on June 4 at Reno City Plaza. The fundraiser begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include food trucks, yard games, and music. The stationary bike sunset ride begins at 6 p.m. and lasts for two hours. CycleNation is nationally sponsored by Amgen and is locally sponsored by Carson Tahoe Health.

Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) is unveiling several “Karma Boxes” (wooden/Plexiglas donation cabinets) at its various locations to house toiletries, first-aid items, and nonperishable foods for those in need, all available at any time and at no cost.

This simple, yet powerful concept is best summed up by its slogan, “If it’s empty, fill it. If you need it, it’s yours.”

Heading into the middle of the work work, more sunny skies and warm temperatures are on tap for Wednesday with highs in the mid-60s. Activities around town include a yoga class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a midweek meditation series offered at Carson City Yoga, a firearms course, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women, a Carson Valley Trails Association celebration more.

Carson City’s own community radio station, KNVC, has been quietly churning out locally curated music, news, information and talk shows for about three years now, and they’re only gaining speed as time goes on.

KNVC runs out of the historic Adams House on North Minnesota Street and, at present, boasts 31 volunteers into its broadcasting family.

Heading into the backend of the work week, events lined up Thursday include day 1 of the 7th annual International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a free information session on the legal and financial aspects of long-term care hosted by Carson Tahoe Care Center, the Carson City GOP will host a meeting to discuss precinct organization, plus trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and a lecture on women’s suffrage movement history in Nevada. Events include a Real ID town hall meeting at the Carson City DMV, the economic impact of pro soccer in Northern Nevada will be featured at NNDA's Business Edge at Casino Fandango, Carson City Schools offers the first of three pre-kindergarten programs for parents and will also host a separate strategic plan meeting. Meanwhile, Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness hosts a yoga class, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

Happenings around the capital city Thursday include a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, the launch of Thursday trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike at Linear Ditch, plus Soroptimist International of Carson City hosts "Celebrating Women Helping Women" at the Carson Nugget. There's also a joint meeting of the school board and the board of supervisors, and a documentary viewing and discussion of "Screenagers" hosted by the Carson City School District. Heading into Thursday and we're looking at plenty of sunshine with a daytime high near 60. Happenings around the capital city include a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, Valentine-themed activities at Carson Mall, a Muscle Powered hike at Clear Creek Trail, Pilates at the Brewery Arts Center, the second of three Carson City school zone modification meetings and more.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, we can expect sunny skies and continued highs in the mid-50s. Midweek events include a Dayton chamber breakfast with the founder of the Desert Pigs cleanup nonprofit group. Plus there's the first of 5 days of Valentine-themed festivities that begins at Carson Mall; an open house at Bethlehem Lutheran School, a CASA information hour, a Carson City School District meeting regarding proposed middle school zone modification. Plus there's a yoga class, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

Recognition has come frequently to Western Nevada College’s Nursing Program from a variety of sources during the past year. The biggest one arrived last Wednesday when Nursing Process selected WNC’s program as No. 1 in the West Region, which encompasses 426 nursing schools, thereby making it one of the nation’s top programs.

Happenings around the capital city include a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a Muscle Powered hike along the V&T trail, library activities, Pilates at the Brewery Arts Center and for your music pleasure, roots raconteur Ray Bonneville will perform at the Silver City Schoolhouse with Richie Lawrence.

In recognition of February as American Heart Month, Carson Tahoe Health will be participating in and hosting several educational and awareness events throughout the month.

Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. The first of a series of 12 educational gardening classes presented through the collaboration of Carson Tahoe Health and The Greenhouse Project begins this Friday, Jan. 24. Site managers Cory King and William Pierz have put together the monthly series of classes.

Carson Tahoe Health is pleased to announce Mallory Behavioral Health Crisis Center was recognized Thursday, Jan. 9 for its diligent efforts in advocacy, community connections, and support for those experiencing a mental health and, or substance use crisis. The 31st annual Human Services Awards named Mallory Behavioral Health Crisis Center Agency of the Year.

CARSON CITY — Royce Ponton gave birth to a new baby boy, Leviathan Wayne Ponton at 12:53 AM on Jan. 1, the first baby of 2020 at Carson Tahoe; he also achieved the title of first Northern Nevada baby born in 2020! But, unbeknownst to Royce, she had even more to celebrate!

Heading into the Veterans Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days. Events include live comedy, art and heater, multiple holiday craft fairs around Carson City and Carson Valley as well as several Veterans Day ceremonies and offers of gratitude to vets and active duty members of the U.S. military on Monday. Wednesday marks 13 years since the opening of the outdoor Labyrinth located at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. The unique space was made possible through a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Carson City.

In 2006, under the leadership of past president Rafael Cappucci, the Rotary Club contributed $75,000 to build the Labyrinth, and gave another $200,000 in support of the Cancer Center project over a four-year period.

Just seven tickets remain for the 11th annual Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner, to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Monday, Nov. 11 at the Governor’s Mansion, Nevada Room in Carson City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $200 and must be purchased in advance; none will be sold at the door.
