The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Michelle Joy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Carson Tahoe Health. CTH is a comprehensive healthcare network composed of two hospitals, two urgent cares, an emergent care center, outpatient services and a provider network with 20 regional locations. Their reach encompassing Carson City, Lake Tahoe, Minden, Carson Valley, South Reno, Dayton, Yerington, and beyond.

After 35 years as an integral part of Carson City’s medical community, providing compassionate care and expertise as a trusted advisor, healer, and friend, Dr. Christopher Forman retired in April from the Carson Tahoe Medical Group as an internist and primary care provider.

Still in need of the COVID-19 vaccine? There is now an additional location to get your shot. Our Dayton site (901 Medical Center Dr.) is now offering the Pfizer vaccine for ages 5 and older. You can get either your initial shot, or the booster. Walk-ins are welcome, but you can also sign-up through your MyChart account.

Carson Tahoe Dayton Urgent Care (901 Medical Center Drive) is going to have a COVID-19 vaccine clinic on October 12 from 7 am-Noon. We will only be offering the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. Walk-In only.

The Carson City and Quad-County region is experiencing a downward trend of COVID-19 hospitalizations since the start of the new year. However, while rates of transmission for children and teenagers have remained low since the pandemic began, new reporting shows a significant increase in minors contracting the virus, according to statistics.

The following is from Diane Rush, director of marketing, communications and public information officer for Carson Tahoe Health.

CARSON CITY — After a month of fundraising, Carson Tahoe has raised over $42,000 toward supplying reusable ENVO N95 masks for their frontline workers. Now, an anonymous donor has offered a match, allowing donors to double their impact. That’s right, every new ‘Sponsor A Caregiver’ gift received until Feb. 21 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000.

Carson Tahoe Health has vaccinated 459 employees using the Pfizer vaccine we received last week. We just received 400 doses of the Moderna vaccine and will continue vaccinating our staff and providers Tuesday.

CARSON CITY — We are now approaching a full year of coordinated efforts to address and minimize the spread of COVID-19. This has presented challenges to many, including health systems near and far. Early this year, Carson Tahoe Health began to pivot service lines and conserve personal protective equipment (PPE).

In these different times, The Greenhouse Project will host the annual Celebrity Chef Dinner as a 'MaskurAid Ball' on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 at Cucina Lupo in Carson city due to a last minute glitch at the Governor's Mansion. Nevada continues to reel from the effects of the most recent surge of Coronavirus. And although COVID-19 positivity test results and hospitalizations have fluctuated this past month, they continue to be high across the state.

Distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine is underway within the state of Nevada, including our local communities in the north. Those who are first up to receive the vaccine include health care personnel and long term care facilities as a part of the first phase of Tier 1 distribution.

The first batch of initial COVID-19 vaccines has reached Carson City, and was received by Carson Tahoe Health Tuesday morning.

In our region, as well as in many areas across the country, there have been massive spikes in COVID-19 transmissions over the past few months. Even as restaurants and bars were reopened, daily positive cases were generally staying within single digits inside the Quad-County region.

However, between October and December, both test positivity rates as well as overall cases — and deaths — have seen a massive increase. Local health organizations are now not only fighting against the disease, but against misinformation campaigns as well.

Nevada has recently been recognized as the state with the highest number of hospitalizations per capita in the country. This matches the surge of COVID-positive patients we are seeing and the increase in hospitalizations.

As area hospitals are quickly filling up with COVID-19 and non COVID-19 patients alike, Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) has joined the unfortunate ranks.

Thankfully, CTH thought ahead and for the second time since the pandemic began, they chose to postpone all elective surgeries until the surge in cases is back under control.

The Salvation Army wants to extend a huge thank you to the community of Carson City. Last Friday, Nov. 20, the nonprofit held its 23rd Annual Turkey Drop. With a year that has seen such a dramatic increase in assistance requests, the amount of turkeys and financial donations The Salvation Army received greatly exceeded what the agency hoped to receive.

On Friday, Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) made a gift of $5,000 to the Salvation Army to support the purchase of turkeys for their holiday meal program at the Salvation Army’s Turkey Drop at Max Casino in Carson City.

As we approach the end of this memorable year, I can’t help but reflect on how much we still have to be thankful for at Carson Tahoe Health.

Thankful for our dedicated healthcare providers, hospital, and administrative staff who remain steadfast in their mission to provide the very best care possible to all of our patients. I’m so very thankful for our team’s ability to be focused, yet flexible, in this constantly evolving, healthcare crisis.

The Greenhouse Project is proud to announce the first MaskurAid Ball, taking place Jan. 4, 2021 in an event where masks are mandatory and costumes are optional.

Taking place at The Governor’s Mansion Nevada Room, the event will observe all social distancing and restricted capacity guidelines.Doors open at 5 p.m., a prize will be awarded for the Best Decorated Mask.

The Quad County area (specifically Carson City) is still seeing a significant rise in COVID-19 cases, and we are continuing to see a surge in hospitalizations as well.

As COVID-19 cases soar in Northern Nevada and local and regional hospitals are reaching capacity, Carson Tahoe Hospital in Carson City is making changes to adapt to the surge of cases.

Like the rest of Northern Nevada, the nation, and the world, Carson Tahoe has spent the last 8-10 months planning. Planning to be prepared in a crisis so we can still take care of our community; planning to persevere; planning to help one another.

Now – we’re in it.

We are putting our ‘Bat-Signal’ out there once again, asking for our community’s help. We have been overwhelmed with the support from our community throughout this pandemic, but unfortunately, COVID cases are still going strong and so are we.

Carson City and our Northern Nevada region are seeing a slow, but steady increase in the number of COVID cases. Noticing this, and acting on recommendations from the U.S. Surgeon General and the American College of Surgeons, Carson Tahoe decided to temporarily suspend non-emergent or non-time-sensitive surgeries through Nov. 22, in which time it will be reevaluated.

Sierra Nevada Realtors is proud to announce its donation of $3,000 to Carson Tahoe Health Foundation’s annual Hopefest event. Many of SNR’s respected members and affiliates came together to ensure that the organization’s long history of supporting Hopefest wouldn’t be interrupted despite having to cancel its annual Cornhole Tournament fundraiser.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, the entire Carson Tahoe Health system, including the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, Carson Tahoe Medical Group, and all other outlying locations, launched Epic — a highly regarded and well-utilized medical records system.

Heading into the weeknd, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Local business Wizard of Pawz grooming salon hosts a socially-distanced grand opening on Saturday afternoon, followed by a pool tournament at Bulldog Billiards at 6 p.m. Combined with live music and karaoke, the state capitol will be packed with excitement!
