Prison Hill 5th St Trailhead and Trails Improvement Project

Carson City, Nevada – The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department is in the process of making improvements to the Prison Hill 5th Street Trailhead which is located on the north end of Prison Hill at the corner of 5th Street and Carson River Road.

A "field trip" for those interested in birding is being held today at Silver Saddle Ranch, hosted by the Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch and the Lahontan Audubon Society.

Carson City Junior Rangers program hosts Leave No Trace Hike

The Carson City Junior Ranger Program educates youth about the environment, fosters a sense of community, and encourages life-long environmental stewardship. Throughout each year's Junior Ranger events, children will fill out their educational Adventure Guides at each program as they learn more about the outdoors.

Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada picks up 23 lbs of 'micro trash' during first Adopt-a-Trail program

On May 11th the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada completed their first Adopt-A-Trail clean-up at Carson River Park.

The group walked from the parking lot to the fishing pier, focusing on micro trash along the trail and in the parking lot.

They picked up 23 pounds of trash. The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space department would like to thank the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada for participating in the Adopt-A-Trail program and completing their first clean-up!

A big thank you goes out to Grapplers INC for donating new Grapplers to the volunteer program for volunteers to use.

Carson City River Float and Tree Wrap featured Saturday, June 1

Fishing Report: Planting has begun, and anglers are already starting to reel them in

Hello fellow anglers, what great time of year. The rivers have opened in California. Which, depending on the new regulation that is being decided on, may not close on November 15th.

As well as Alpine county, the lakes in Inyo and Mono Counties have opened and have been producing some beautiful fish, which I will share later in this report. It's hard to believe how fast the time goes.

The Children's Museum in Carson City will host a Summer Science Camp this year. Participants will get hands on lessons in science, art, music and literary projects tied to the Carson River watershed, as well as learning about regional geology and mining, geothermal and solar energy, biomes of Northern Nevada and hot air balloons.

Muscle Powered's Saturday Hike to Brunswick Canyon Road along Carson River

Meet at Brunswick Canyon Road and Deer Run road, 1 mile south of Highway 50 East, Carson City. Join Muscle Powered as we walk along the very actively-flowing river. Kingfishers, hawks, and waterfowl are often seen along this stretch of the river. Hike distance will range between 2-4 miles, depending on trail condition. Water and closed-toes shoes are REQUIRED. Hat and sunscreen recommended.

Missing Dayton man identified after body discovered near Carson River

The identity of a man found April 24 along the Carson River in Dayton has been identified and was a man reported missing last year, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the decedent was in fact a missing person, who was identified as 34-year-old Dayton resident, Frank Greene.

Carson City sheriff's deputies make arrests for DUI and domestic battery

A 38-year-old man was arrested Sunday, 10:53 a.m. in the area of Silver Sage and Briarwood Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI drugs and driving with suspended registration, a sheriff's deputy said.

Rising temperatures and rapid spring runoff has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch for the Carson Valley near the West Fork of the Carson River from Thursday evening through late Saturday night.

Muscle Powered Trash Mob cleaned up at East Silver Saddle Ranch on Saturday

We met in the large parking area at East Silver Saddle Ranch on Sierra Vista Lane and spread out to clear trash between the Carson River and Sierra Vista Lane. Things have improved a lot since the improvements have been put in by Carson City Public Works and Parks, Recreation, and Open Space but we were still able to find about 360 pounds of trash.

Fishing Report: Weather should be cooperative for Opening Day

California is looking into changing fishing seasons on many lakes and streams. Some areas may be open all year round and possibly change restrictions on others. Since Topaz is a bi-state body of water, the opening day ceremony that so many have come to love and look forward to on January 1st of each year may be a thing of the past.

Carson City's Muscle Powered to take on portion of Carson River at next Trash Mob

Carson City Parks and Rec hosts May 'Hike into History' walk along the Carson River

Carson City firefighters called to small brush fire near Sierra Vista Lane and Carson River Road

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Monday morning to a small brush fire off of Carson River Road on the west side of Sierra Vista Lane near Silver Saddle Ranch.

Legislation regarding marijuana shops, lounges to be discussed at Thursday's Board of Supervisors meeting

The April Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on April 4 beginning at 8:30 am. Items on the table for discussion include a tax on tobacco vapor products, legislation regarding marijuana shop taxes, expanding hiking trail systems, upcoming legislation, and more.

The April 4 meeting will occur in the Sierra Room of the community center, located at 851 E. William Street.
