Prison Hill 5th St Trailhead and Trails Improvement Project
Carson City, Nevada – The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department is in the process of making improvements to the Prison Hill 5th Street Trailhead which is located on the north end of Prison Hill at the corner of 5th Street and Carson River Road.
The project also includes repair and realignment of some of the trails immediately south of this trailhead. The trailhead will be closed beginning June 10th and is expected to reopen by the end of July. ARMAC Construction will complete resurfacing of the entrance road and the parking lot, make improvements to drainage, and add an ADA compliant vault restroom, picnic table and picnic shelter.
The trails improvement component of this project will be performed by the Great Basin Institute who will begin work on May 28 and will continue through early August. During this period there will be closures of sections of trail as work is conducted. The public is asked to avoid this area during the construction period.
This project is largely funded by a $200,000 grant from the Recreational Trails Program which is part of the Federal Highway Administration. Cash and in-kind match for the grant came from the Carson City Quality of Life Initiative. The project goal is to improve access to our Open Space lands and to enhance recreational opportunities for all of our residents.
