The scorching pavement of Carson High School’s parking lot didn’t keep spectators from enjoying the third annual “A Place to Shine” Show and Shine fundraiser in Carson City.

It’s a very special Friday for the kids of Carson City: it’s the last day of summer vacation. Take full advantage of your free time and check out some of today’s activities. Live music at McFadden Plaza tonight features local cover band, Deception. The Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival kicks off tonight with a band in the Davis Creek Campground. The U.S. Air Force’s Jazz Ensemble performs at the Bob Boldrick Theater as part of the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival. Free tickets have been available at the Chamber of Commerce for a few weeks, and if any are left, their numbers will be limited.

Carson High School in Carson City will be "A Place to Shine" this Saturday at the third annual Show and Shine Car Show, which raises money for scholarships aimed at providing students and their families the funds they need to participate in extracurricular activities.

Veterans Healing Camp cordially invites the community to the 2nd Annual Concert Under the Stars on Saturday, August 25 from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Veterans Healing Camp property located at 1775 East US Highway 50 in Silver Springs.

I’m not even going to speculate on the air quality, but please use your best judgement when choosing your activities and there may be some cancellations that I am not aware of. Downtown has a full day of options, but the back roads may be a little more difficult to navigate due to construction projects. The great music that awaits will be worth the hassle. Please join us at the Boy Scout Troop 33's fifth annual Car Show to be held on August 18, 2018 at Fuji Park in Carson City. Doors open at 8 a.m., show starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. with trophies presented at 3 p.m.

There will be food which is cooked by the famous Warren Engine Co. No. 1 on Carson City and will include barbecue hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs and chili dogs with chips drink and cookie.

There will be two live auctions during the show with some very nice items.

It is finally Friday. As August melts away, it brings us closer to the new school year. Carson High returning students are invited to the Senator Kick-off this morning to get their fill of back-to-school updates. Families will love the Movie in the Park; bring a blanket or chairs and come prepared to enjoy ‘Coco.’ Three days of high-flying fun begins today at Heritage Park in Gardnerville as the Splash Dogs competition gets underway. You will always find live music around town on Fridays, but during the Jazz and Beyond Festival, it seems like music is everywhere.

Looks like another great day to stay indoors. The Carson City Library has several activities planned today, and one of them might be what you’re looking for. Story time this morning is for the little ones. Just about everyone is welcome to participate in their weekly Lego Club build. Families will enjoy movie night; just make sure to register online if you’re planning on seeing Peter Rabbit with them this evening. The Jazz and Beyond Music Festival is in full swing, so you’ll find plenty of music around.

Welcome to Wednesday, Carson City. It’s another lazy, hazy day in Northern Nevada. You’ll want to keep your outdoor activities limited when the air is like this, but it understandably leads to a feeling of cabin-fever. Take the family out for dinner tonight at Firehouse Subs on Highway 50; they are raising funds for a local family recovering from a car accident. Learn more about our emergency responders at tonight’s annual ‘Partnership in Action’ National Night Out at Mills Park. Free hot dogs, chips, and soda, multiple exhibits and activities, and so much more make this an exciting event for kids of all ages. Muscle Powered has cancelled its evening hike, but the early birds can meet up at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center for a stroll indoors.

TUESDAY, August 7: Things to do in Carson City

Organizers of this weekend's 33rd annual Carson City car show known as Run What Cha Brung say it was a great success with 215 cars that were officially entered into the event held at Mills Park.

Chrome, custom paint and white-walled tires covered the grass on the east end of Mills Park Saturday for the annual Run What Cha Brung car show sponsored by Karson Kruzers car club.

Yeah, it’s hot out there, but it’s the area happenings that are sizzling. The Carson City Fair at Fuji Park offers a plethora of entertainment for all ages including tractor pulls, a carnival, and farm animals. Under the shade of the Mills Park cottonwoods, you’ll have all day to peruse the varied vehicles in the annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The sun will come out tomorrow, but it’s the stars that are coming out tonight for the free Levitt Amp Concert at the Brewery Arts Center.

Ready for a good time? The Carson City Fair runs all day and culminates with a special concert in the arena starring Journey Unlimited. Car lovers are in for a treat: you can head down to the Carson Mall for their monthly cruise night, or roll into the Max Casino to get registered for the 33rd annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The Trippin King Snakes take the stage in McFadden Plaza for a free all-ages show. Break a leg to the kids of Youth Theater Carson City; they open their production of ‘Bye, Bye, Birdie’ at the Community Center this evening.

RENO — More than 6,000 vehicles will call the streets of Northern Nevada home for the 32nd Annual Hot August Nights festival. The week-long celebration commences in the historic mining town of Virginia City, Nev. on Friday, Aug. 3 to Saturday, Aug. 4. Then it's down the mountainside to the Main Event in Reno-Sparks starting Sunday, Aug. 5 through Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018.

Carson City's Karson Kruzers car club is revving its engines ahead of the 33rd annual Run What Cha Brung car show featured this Friday at Max Casino and Saturday, July 28 at Mills Park in Carson City.

It was a windy car show, but we had 78 cars that didn't get blown away. Thank you to Johnny Rockets to be our host for this show. They actually did two shows with wind both times and a good turnout. Thank you again. Bill B.

I have long found it impossible to decide which Carson City event is my favorite: forever waffling between Nevada Day and the Taste of Downtown. Seeing as the annual parade is still months away, I’m going to side with ‘The Taste’ purely for its timeliness. With over forty local eateries participating, multiple raffles at downtown shops, and seven bands rocking every corner of the event, it’s practically impossible to have a bad time. This might be the biggest happening in town, but it’s by no means the only good time: read on for all this weekend’s options.

Max Casino will host the last Thursday Night Cruise, so come on down and enjoy the fun. Big drawing for the 50/50 raffle, over $400 as of now. Also a poker walk being done in the Max Casino during the car show from 5:30 to 6:30 for all car drivers.

Less than a month away from the annual Karson Kruzers Run What Cha Brung car show July 27-28 at Mills Park in Carson City, this year's event will feature an award-winning custom 1957 Buick Lone Wolf owned by Jim Farcello of Kustom Kreations.

The fourth annual Iron Rebels Car Show was held Saturday at Shelton Racing and Fabrication on Challenger Way in Carson City.

With a thunderous roar Saturday night at Marv Teixeira Pavilion next to Mills Park, hot rods revved their engines in unison for Cacklefest, a tribute to members of the Rockabilly Riot that have passed away over the last decade.

The fourth annual Iron Rebels Car Show to be held on Saturday, June 30 at Shelton Racing and Fabrication located at 3600 Challenger Way, Carson City.

CARSON CITY — Since Rockabilly Riot started in 2010, Lindsey Harrison has attended each show, particularly the pin-up contest. “I’ve watched it every year, but I was never confident enough to try it,” she said.

Last year, however, fresh off a divorce and ready to dive into new things, Harrison submitted her photos for consideration for the Miss Rockabilly Riot pin-up contest.

More than 600 cars are expected to roll into Carson City for the annual Rockabilly Riot on June 21-23 in Mills Park.
The show will feature hot rods — most built from the ground up — from 1976 and older.

This week we'll be at Johnny Rockets on South Carson Street starting at 5 p.m. and going until 7:30 p.m. Bring your car or truck and show it off. Last Thursday at Max's Casino we had 98 good looking cars and trucks. This is a free show for all, come and enjoy the show.
